don’t rb i’m just having a semi-secular patrilineal jew breakdown again
i kind of want to learn yiddish but i feel so weird about it honestly.. i feel sooo disconnected from judaism and jewish culture in general and nobody in my family has spoken yiddish since my great grandparents (although my grandparents probably spoke a little). but that’s kind of why i want to learn it in the first place? i don’t know. realistically i know i won’t do it anytime soon just because of the logistics, but considering that choice and making that choice feels like i’m abandoning my culture lol. but like, is it even really my culture anymore?? my family is so assimilated i feel bad even thinking i SHOULD learn yiddish. i’m just running myself in maddening little circles about it the way i do with everything related to judaism or ashkenazi culture!! is it mine or is it not mine?? am i claiming it or stealing it?? how much of a fake AM i exactly?? how guilty should i feel for wanting it? and how ashamed should i feel for feeling guilty??????
