Well since it's St Paddy's day, I'll go with this one. So in Philly we call subs (y'know the long sandwich boys) "hoagies". The lore is that Irish dockworkers started calling their sandwiches "hoggies" because the Navy shipyard they worked on was located on Hog Island. And because the Philly accent is trash, the word changed from "hoggies" to "hoagies" over time.
