His fiance’s clothes going unworn for months, the fold lines growing sharper with each passing day.

Eddie dreaded that’s where they would live forever. In the drawers, crisp lines and sharp edges. That they would never again be warm and grow worn. That they too would live perpetually suspended in uncertainty along with him. That he would wake up one day, an officer at his door, a sharply folded flag, and dog tags placed in his arms with nothing to grab onto. --- or Buck goes missing while deployed, and Eddie spirals. Pieces of their love story from this universe intertwined, with a happy ending.

I hope you like it! <3 a/n: ooh boy omg, this is the longest thing i have ever written, it truly became a monster. gabbi and chloe are not necessarily exactly their namesakes but just a nod to our buddie parallel speedsters <3. i did...too much research for some aspects of this fic, and definitely not enough for others, so medical inaccuracies within, but fairly accurate as far as i can tell in terms of (most) military and naval information except where i said fuck it these two are in love so the rules don't matter. shout out to steve for putting up with my incessant questioning when i did want to get it exactly right. the timeline is rough so just go with me on that one, i do have scribbled notes if anyone is interested. some things that made their way into this fic include inspiration from greys anatomy 6x24, parks and rec 5x05, to all the boys i've loved before, and the kissing hand by audrey penn, i own none of these or 9-1-1.
