The road stretches out in front of them; the last glimmers of the sunset still glancing off the hood of their shitty SUV, the best they could afford with the lackluster budget they’d gotten from Financial. 

We Drive 2,790 miles from Los Angeles to New York.

It made sense for Steven to be on the trip, living in New York and having a string of successful videos recently. But it should have been Andrew or Adam in the passenger seat, Shane grimly acknowledges. A spin-off of Worth It maybe, or even an addition to the series, like Eugene’s 50 drinks per state video.

He doesn’t quite know what had possessed him to volunteer to accompany Steven in the pitch meeting. He remembers with embarrassing vividness the look of surprise on Andrew’s face, Ryan’s knowing little smile. 

Steven’s eyes, wide, but not with shock or dread. Something else. He tries not to think about what the little glances Steven keeps sneaking in his direction mean as they rattle down a particularly wrecked road in the middle of Nevada. 

He tries not to think at all. That’s his strategy to surviving the trip.
