I love platonic relationships in media, I love brotps, but whenever I see a post that's like "we should stop focusing on romance and focus on FRIENDS, we should bring back characters being FRIENDS," I can't help but feel a little wary of those posts. Maybe it's just the fandoms I'm in, but exploring friendships is still incredibly common from what I see and I would argue on tumblr dot com it's more common to see a M/F brotp than a M/F romantic pairing, so these posts really read as a rebrand of "why does everyone have to be gay, can't two men/two women be friends anymore?"

#idk i'm just thinking thoughts i'm not accusing any specific person of being like. a horrible homophobe but it does make me pause #and i think my problem isn't wanting to explore friendship more #it's like. the idea that 1. you can't explore friendship/friendship becomes less pure when you add romance or sex #2. the fact that these people seem less like they want to explore friendship and more like they want people to stop shipping those characte #*characters
