Guys lemme ask you a fandom ethics question I posed to my friends, I wanna know your thoughts as more fandom-oriented people! I was reading some niche fandom drama and it shocked me a bit.

Basically, this fanartist had created these very popular character designs/AU, but they ended up leaving the fandom at some point. A fan of theirs then decided to dedicate themselves to learning how to completely replicate the original artist's drawing/writing style, to the point where people would mistake their art for the original artist's work. The original artist eventually came back, and was pissed off when they found out about this. People considered this to be asshole behavior???? While I don't think the og artist should have bullied the fan(that's fucked up) I think their discomfort and annoyance with this is extremely valid. If I found out someone completely copied my entire style, I would be immensely freaked out?????

So let me ask you this, if you were in this artist's position, and found out that while you were gone, someone had been copying your entire style without having asked you or anything,
