Jocelyn Fenwicke ('Joss' to his friends and family) is twenty four at the time of the story. He's got just-longer-than shoulder-length, black hair, pale skin, and dark brown eyes. He's lanky and quite tall (his whole family is pretty tall - father (Richard) 6'4", older brother (Max) 6'2, older sister (Rachel) 5'11) and like his sister, he's got a shy personality and reclusive, bookish tendencies but he can certainly be charming and gregarious when he needs to be. He studied History at Oxford, then did a PhD at Cambridge focusing on medieval manuscripts, so he's a smarty-pants and a huge nerd. Tone deaf, couldn't carry a tune with a bucket, but he loves the theatre and cinema, and he's really good at drawing.

His family has owned Claycombe Grange since the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries (1530s-40s), and his family has a big history with the occult and the supernatural at both Cambridge and Oxford, let's just say (more about the Grange and its peculiarities revealed in the upcoming Chapter One...). When Joss was 10 years old, he and his mother were involved in a car accident which left him with an incomplete spinal cord injury at T5-6 (sternum), and he uses a manual wheelchair.

He's impulsive and has a tendency to go at things head on without thinking things all the way through, and when he meets Eve, he's certainly in a bit of a pickle*, for sure... Eve, the story's other protagonist, has a much more level head (thank goodness), and although she has some experience with the supernatural and its dangers, she's about to get drawn into a world which is way more perilous than she realised... :)

*she saves his life. It's a Big Pickle

Who is Joss and can you tell us more about the project???

Jocelyn 'Joss' Fenwicke is the third youngest child of Richard and April Fenwicke. He starts the story as a human, and a few chapters in, becomes something... other.

If folks are curious about the project, I can answer more, and/or I can work on a draft of the first chapter, where we meet our two protagonists, and post it soon for you.

Depends on whether there's much interest I guess?

Published work omg, I would buy it a 100000%. Would you ever include your illustrations in your books if you get to that?

Thank you! That's actually a fairly accurate reading of him (from one doodle and a bit of blurb!!).

It's a project that's spiralling into a full blown research project now (oh man don't ask), so yeah, it's absolutely something I could see working into a publishable manuscript draft one day. (You know, I'd just have to find an agent and all the terrifying stuff that goes with trying to get published... Which is what has stopped me trying before if I'm honest with previous 'novel' sized projects...)

I would never consider including my own illustrations in a book though *just the thought gives me hives* I'd far rather pay an artist to create art for me, haha.
