Honestly, Jimin had never done anything like this. He wanted to tell Namjoon the feelings that he had kept locked away for so long, but he knew those feelings would be rejected. There was no way that Namjoon would feel the same, it was surely an unrequited love. The pair had been friends for so long, and the feelings that had grown for the other just seemed so natural. Their friendship just seemed to fit perfectly and to grow into something more, for him. Jimin knew that if this didn’t work out, then he would ruin their friendship. There was no coming back from it. So, he hoped that it wasn’t just a one-sided love affair, that Namjoon loved him back.
The blonde had been mulling over this for the past year. Jimin had gone back and forth trying to tell Namjoon the love he felt for him, but he just couldn’t. He couldn’t ruin the good times they had with one another if the older male didn’t feel the same. It scared him to the core. The thought of losing his best friend would devastate him more than being rejected. At least, that’s what he thought. He wasn’t quite sure what would be worse, being rejected, or losing his friend. Granted, there was a thin line between both of them. The truth of the matter was, he could be rejected. How do you get over the fact that your best friend confessed his feelings for you? Jimin was sure that neither of them would recover from that. There was no going back to normal when things like that happened.
“You have to get out of your head, Jimin,” he said to himself as he shook his thoughts. This was the exact reason why he was never able to confess his love for Namjoon. He would always second guess himself. He would constantly replay scenarios of rejection, and in turn, would break his heart at the thought of never seeing the older male again. The idea of being left by the other scared him more than anything. Namjoon had become that confidant that he needed in life, and things would never be the same if suddenly he wasn’t there anymore.
As the blonde laid against his couch, he sighed when he heard the doorbell. He honestly nearly jumped out of his skin. He hadn’t expected for Namjoon to get here so quickly, however, he had told him that there was something he wanted to talk to him about. Jimin had practically been so vague in the text, he was sure that was enough to worry him. Jimin usually was the type to never hold anything in. If he had important news to share, Namjoon was the first person that he would share it with whether it was good or bad. At this point, it was just natural for him to share everything. Namjoon never seemed to mind that, and it was something that he admired about the older male.
Jimin took a deep breath and pulled himself from the couch. He nervously walked over to the door, and his hand shook as he opened the door. Jimin had managed to give the other a bright smile. He didn’t want to give anything away or let the other in on how nervous he actually was. “Hey Joonie!” he greeted him.
“Hey Jiminie,” his signature dimple smile showing through as he pulled his friend in for a tight embrace.
Jimin couldn’t help the way he almost melted into the other. Namjoon’s hugs could save lives if it were possible. “Come sit, I definitely didn’t think you’d get here so quick,” he told him as he pulled his friends over to the couch. “You had to have run here or something,” he stated as a chuckle escaped from his lips.
“Damn near, you were being all secretive in your text messages, and that’s not like you.”
“Maybe, I know how to be secretive, don’t call me out like that, Namjoon,” he teases the taller male.
“Do you though?” Namjoon says as he eyes him skeptically with a playful smile pulling at the corner of his lips.
“Wow, Joonie. I do know how to keep a secret, I think,” he says with a laugh as he ran his hand through his blonde locks. The younger male paused for a brief moment as he looked up at his friend. “There is something I want to talk about” he mentioned. He noticed the other’s facial expression which caused him to tuck his bottom lip between his teeth chewing on it nervously. “It’s not anything bad...promise.”
At least that’s what he was hoping for.
“There you go again, being cryptic,” he hears Namjoon tease him.
Jimin heard the annoying voice in the back of his mind telling him that Namjoon wouldn’t reciprocate his feelings. He heard that familiar voice say that he wasn’t good enough for the older male. Jimin could feel the fear sink in like an anchor sinking to the bottom of the ocean. He wanted to back out, but he felt like it was too late. He noticed the way Namjoon encouraged him with a nod of his head, and it made his stomach flip.
Jimin’s mind was going a mile a minute. Thinking of what to say and how to say it, and it always came up short. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t rehearsed this a million times before, but now that he had Namjoon in front of him, it was completely different. “I...I,” he paused to keep himself from stuttering. His small fingers played with the end of his own shirt.
“Jiminie,” he said with a soft smile. “You know you can tell me anything, what’s on your mind?”
The blonde could have melted right then, but instead, he opted to keep his composure as he smiled. Joon had always been the understanding type, and he adored that about the older man. Jimin took a deep breath as he opened his mouth to speak once again. “I...I love you,” he managed to get out.
The younger male looked up at his friend as he tried to search his face for what he was feeling. As the minutes ticked by, and Jimin’s words hung in the air. He felt as if he couldn’t breathe anymore. He couldn’t read what the other was thinking, and it was only causing him to panic.
“You love me?” he questioned.
He nodded his head at him. Jimin could barely find the words to speak. His mind had gone completely blank just like he knew it would. “It’s…” he trails off momentarily. “I’ve loved you for the longest, Namjoonie. You...you’re the sweetest man I know, and you accept me for me. You allow me to be who I am without the added judgement that I feel from so many people.” he admitted. “It’s the smallest things you do for me that just make me so happy, Namjoon. It’s when you bring me lunch when I forget and I protest all the time saying you don’t have too, when you smile that dimpled smile that makes my stomach flip, or when you just tell me everything will be okay because you're right here next to me because I’m stressed from work. It...it means a lot to me.”
Swallowing he continued to look at his friend as the other remained silent. “Please, say something, anything.” he laughed nervously as he felt his voice wavering. His thoughts were getting away from him. What if this was that moment that Namjoon tells him that he doesn’t love him back? That they could only be friends. Jimin didn’t think that would work this time. It was too late to take back what he said.
“I don’t know what you want me to say,” Namjoon frowned trying to formulate his own thoughts. Truthfully, Namjoon didn’t know how to say what he wanted too. It seemed no matter how much he tried to formulate actual words, he was never able to say what was on his chest.
Jimin winced at his words. He was seeing his fears unfolding before his eyes. “Y..you don’t have to say anything,” he said softly as he looked down at his hands before looking back up at him. “You don’t have to feel--” he started but his words were quickly cut short when Namjoon leaned forward and pressed his lips against Jimin’s pillowy soft lips.
Jimin’s eyes widened and he hesitated when he felt the other kissing him. He pulled himself out of his stupor, kissing him back softly.. His cheeks flushed a bright pink when Namjoon pulled back.
“I love you, too.” Namjoon told him with his dimpled smile.
