sentences.
“Do you want to steal their dog?”
"i'm sure we could be as happy as – but are we? no. definitely no. positive no. decidedly no."
Being happy. What a stupid, common, meaningless goal. Her whole face physically droops at the idea of it, it makes her eyes look menacingly wide.
Shelley’s tone and cadence captures the exact syntactic oddities of a physics professor giving a lecture on pottery:
“Human brains are built to be happy, you know. You are wasting through life trying to make your brain do something it will already do. For goodness sake, spend time doing anything else.”
❝ No dogs on the moon, they just run off the goddamn thing. ❞ | this was too perfect for your blog to not send xnjnsgs, but uhhh ! from either my oc jack or cecil? whoever you think has the best potential chemistry 🙏
taz sentences ( + accepting! )
“So. Save fuel: shoot a dog into the vacuum of space. The Russians did. Look where they are.”
Look where she is. The one who made them the dogs. Penniless. Making knock off suburban dogs. Dog hair all over her clothes. Even the clothes she’s wearing right now. She just washed these clothes. God awful. Dogs are awful. Dr. Barks deflates. Her eyes roll along the brim of her top lid and stay there. She looks annoyed, reminiscent. She looks half possessed like this. Could be. Could explain some things. She holds this face until the muscles of her eyes start to hurt. Then she exhales. Lets her gaze fall back down. Why did she bring it up.
JORDY i love your writing so much but my fav thing has to be the way you can mould your tone and structure and voice depending on the character! it gives such easy and fun access to exactly how you want the character to come across!!!! like with dr barks there's such a fun douglas adams vibe!! it makes reading anything you write just the most enjoyable thing to do, i always actively stop and read your replies when they appear on my dash bc i love everything you write ALWAYS
bobby! my bud! i love you!!!!!!!!
and i love the things you notice. and i love the things you do.
douglas adams was not consciously on my mind when writing dr barks (altho the newer dirk gently show was and that was v loosely based on his book) but ive always loved his witty, playful, absurd, silly, not-so-serious writing style (i read the first two hitchhiker books in high school and was changed forever) and there’s no doubt he’s influenced me in many ways. so to elicit that douglas adams feeling in my writing style here is! wonderful! so fun and rewarding to hear! it perfectly fits the feeling that im going for so!!! you Get It!
and all this coming from you! makes it mean so much more! because, bobby, my dude, you are incredible at tailoring your style and word choice and flow to match your characters. the doctor, midge, jesse, etc. your style, your narration, is always so entertainingly, perfectly, achingly attuned to the character. i am always emoji eyeing your writing and what youre up to and constantly inspired by you and your stuff. youre an absolutely GEM, a GIFT to have around and i never let myself forget that (tbh you make it impossible to forget that b/c youre just So Good!!!).
