I went out today to study/work at this cafe, and I was just casually working in this little Studio Ghibli esque cafe and some little girl and boy come in with their mom and while their mom ordered they went to find a seat, which was close to mine. And this little girl looks at me, at the bruises on my collarbone, turns to the boy, who had bruises all over his body, and says "See Micheal? That lady has what you have and she looks so pretty!" AND LORD HELP ME I WAS ABOUT TO SOB RIGHT THERE AND THEN.
The mom explained that the boy was rescued and adopted from a really abusive home and wasn't comfortable with his bruises yet and the girl (his adopted sister) always tried to find ways to cheer him up and it made me so happy because for the first time in so many days I finally went out without baggy clothes and my skin covered in makeup.
Innocence is just a social concept. Rid yourself of the idea that you are less innocent, less pure because you know how the world works now. Banish the thought that you have become bitter and jaded. You're still as beautiful as you were before. You're still you.

“What are we going to do?”
The power being out was the last thing that you expected on a Saturday night in. Luke was with you—pretending not to notice that you settled your legs in his lap as you watched TV together. Yet everything went dark before flicking on again, leaving a false sense of security before the two of you were in the dark again.
“I’ve never been in a power outage before.”
Luke looked at you in concern, knitting his eyebrows together as he watched you look around your living room for candles. He seemed like he was trying to hide how nervous he was—opening his phone to turn his data on.
“It’s not hard to do babe. Just a lot of waiting around and not opening the fridge.”
You put a hand to his knee as you lit the candle to the side of him. Luke’s face was illuminated by the warm light. His eyes more vibrant under the dull glow that popped up around the room. You put on a soft, moody playlist and turned your phone over on its face. Focusing your attention back on Luke as you sat on the floor in front of him.
“This does give us a nice opportunity to talk.”
Luke came to join you on the floor. His eyes looked at ease, drinking in your face with a calm appreciation.
“Is it just your house that’s out? Or is it everyone’s?”
Luke looked over your head and out the window—his eyes widening in surprise as he saw no streetlights.
“It’s everyone, but a small outage like this won’t last long. I’m sure it’ll be about 4 hours.”
Luke pouted before responding.
“And we just got to the good part of the show.”
You laughed and reached out to place his hand on your chest. You were surprised to feel how warm he was. What attracted you most about Luke is that he looked like the human incarnation of a warm blanket—giving you a fuzzy feeling without even touching him. He was wrapped up in a grey crewneck sweatshirt and black sweatpants.
He was beckoning you to lay on him without saying anything at all.
“Yeah, but we’ll be able to watch it again babe.”
You let the pet name slip out before you realized what you were saying. It was the second time that you had invited Luke over.
You hadn’t kissed him.
There was nothing more that you could dream about in that moment. Leaning in and kissing his beautiful lips. Running your hands through his hair as he held on to your waist. Just pulling you in to his lap as you bloomed into your first kiss with Luke Hemmings, the softest man you had ever seen.
But he didn’t seem close to that yet.
Not now, as he seemed more preoccupied with the candle wax melting from the side of the glass. His attention snapped back to you when you moved an inch closer to him. Making sure that you were trying to make a statement about how you felt.
“I have an idea.”
Luke traced the lines of his palms as the song switched to a slower paced ballad.
“How about we say what we like about each other?”
He smiled at you when he put his hands on his knees, stretching his toes through his socks as he nervously looked to you for approval.
“I love that. Would you like to start?”
You were challenging him and flirting with him at the same time. Raising your brows as you placed your palm on top of Luke’s. He didn’t move when you touched him. He cradled your fingers with his as he moved slightly. Clearing his throat before answering your question.
“I like the fact that you’re so funny. You make me laugh at things I didn’t know could be funny. I love your voice, I love how you make every place feel like home, no matter where you are.”
Luke kept eye contact as he finished his statement.
“And you’re always so goddamn attractive. It’s almost annoying, but I don’t care enough to hold it against you.”
You could feel your cheeks burning. You didn’t expect Luke to say anything like that—let alone keep his cool as he started to define the borders of your relationship.
“That’s more you than me, Luke. You’re amazing, and it seems like the more I learn about you the more I want to get to know you. And get closer to you.”
Your calves were touching his. Pushing yourself forward as you both sat with crossed legs. It was as if you were in a trance that neither of you started—settling in to the magic of the moment.
“Makes me want to kiss you so badly.”
You said it even though you knew you might regret it.
“Why don’t you?”
Luke wrapped his hands around your waist as he leaned in. He didn’t go all the way, as he wanted to make a point that you would close the gap. You moved the rest of the way with ease, kissing Luke with a firmness as you put your hands around his neck.
They didn’t stay there long.
Your palms migrated to his face when you deepened the kiss—barely opening your mouth so that Luke could intensify it if he wanted to. He gave in. Pulling back only to tease his tongue with yours. Two kisses turned into ten as songs changed, with Luke rubbing his nose into the side of your neck as he kissed the skin there.
He was even better than you imagined.
Smelling of vanilla and aftershave, you submerged yourself in the sweetness that was his kisses.
You pulled back to catch your breath.
Your lips felt swollen, as your pulse carried through your face as Luke put his fingers to your chin. He seemed like he was ready for more—propositioning you by leaning forward again after taking off his sweatshirt.
