Mondays, Lily thought as she tightened her ponytail, were incredible. A better day of the week had yet to exist. This particular Monday meant leftover Easter candy, a trip to the record store and local chippy and Remus.
“You’re preening quite a bit for someone who’s spending the afternoon with ‘just a friend’,” Petunia said airily from her spot on the kitchen table. The kitchen had a direct line of sight through the living room and into the hallway by the front door, and she could see Lily inspecting herself in the mirror. Lily could tell she was aiming for nonchalance, but it was easy to see through the way her sister was focusing a little too hard on blowing on her nails as they dried. The pair had spent the morning giving each other manicures, or more accurately, Petunia had planned on giving herself one and Lily had bullied her into giving her one as well. The younger Evans opted for Pink Spicing, a metallic lilac shade that felt appropriate for spring while the older had chosen the more innocuous Vanilla Orchid, a color that was “tasteful” since only “tarts and women who worked down at the Cheeky Chap” went for flashy colors.
Lily rolled her eyes, the well-practiced gesture of a sister, “And you’re talking a lot for someone who said she didn’t care about meeting him.”
A knock saved her from Petunia’s indignant squabbling about Lily’s cheek. It was only a few short steps from the hall mirror to the door, but Lily crossed the distance in record time and eagerly wrenched it open. “Remus!” She cried happily, flinging herself into him for a tight hug before he could get a word in edgewise. Her parents had gone out to do the shopping, otherwise it would probably be a full welcome committee of Flora Evans greeting Remus with a forceful squeeze as well and Wilfred peering curiously over her shoulder.
