I am gonna talk about how good s1 and s2 are, cause it has so many important themes I can only hope to see as the show goes forward.
It's show about the complexity of domestic abuse (when there are good, loving moments) and the impact it has on a family and the individual. It is about racial differences and how they affect a biracial couple at the beginning of the 20th century. It is about guilt, grief and depression and how that follows the main character from the beginning of the story. It is about how bad acts don't wash out the good and vice versa. It is about a black man getting to tell his story despite how retelling a story can never be truly accurate. It is about how there is such a thing as white privilege, and how it is perceived and affects the characters of colour. It is about how no one is purely evil or purely good — are we the sum of our worst moments. It is about how love affects how a story is told. It is about how you can love more than one person.
Reducing it to just a lie, makes it all so surface level. So mundane. And this isn't iwtv
My favorite recurring bit in Rookanis fics across the board is the idea that Illario is an outrageous flirt who turns it on Rook at every opportunity, because that idea was not borne out during my playthrough at all. Like I was waiting for Illario to try it and he literally never did. Know what I did notice? The closest it ever comes is during Inner Demons, where Lucanis's idea of Illario turns the charm up on Rook, which is in itself very interesting. Like Rookanis run or not, there's something to be said about Lucanis having a subconscious fear of Illario stealing his one single friend away through charm and flirtation.
You need more things to do. Entertaining things
So I'll slide some anime recomendations:
*The Apothecary Diaries (great mystery with a pinch of romance. REALLY recommend)
*Death Note (just because it's a classic, but also gets the investigation vibes with a "smart" protagonist)
*Spy X Family (mostly cute vibes since sometimes the world can be ominous, this is to relax)
Have a seat, a sandwich and have fun 🥪
