didn't want to add it to @balrogballs' post because it's only partially related to only one of the issues brought up in the post, but while we're at it. I think replying to (not exactly the right term but bear with me) "watsonian" racism ("the shire is white") with "watsonian" arguments ("this is wrong because XYZ") is ultimately useless because that's not the point! we're talking about real people of color being gatekept from real roles and real money based on fictional rules of a fictional world, which is plain absurd. we cannot treat the "watsonian" explanations for why every actor in a production "should" be white as if they're equally as valid as arguments about REAL people's lives and careers. they're not equal!! one is literally made up!! come the fuck on
