A Difference

It had been nearly three years to the day since Odin had sent her here, and she spent every day cursing his name. How dare he? She had been under the impression it would be a quick visit to Vanaheimr, where she would speak with one of the elders, and then return home the next day.
When she had arrived, the elder Odin had specified she talk to had no idea what she was talking about and advised her to return home. She planned on it. The Allfather had been acting weird lately, and she had quite a few questions to ask him regarding his behavior. However, Heimdell didn’t answer her call. In fact, nobody did.
Luckily, the inhabitants of Vanaheimr were accommodating. They offered her food and shelter and were quite hospitable. They didn’t even ask that she pay them in return, but Sif found it would be against her morals not to. Her money ran out, but she helped out with various chores when she could. Occasionally, she’d get paid for some other odd jobs she did here and there.
Before she knew it, one year had passed with no word from Asgard, and the elders refused to reveal anything to her, despite being all-knowing. The second year passed, and she had gotten herself a small two-room apartment above a local pub, one she frequented. The staff there knew her well, and she had made friends with most of the regulars...
Then news of Asgard’s destruction reached her ears. The barkeep tended to gossip, and merchants liked to supply information over a drink. At first, she couldn’t believe it...All her friends, the royal family, her people...gone? Asgard reduced to space dust? It couldn’t be...
But it was. Even the elders acknowledged it, and she mourned for weeks. She cursed Odin’s name twice a day, then. If he had not tricked her. If he had not sent her here...She would have fought for Asgard’s safety until she drew her last breath. Perhaps she would have made a difference.
She fell into a depression after that, but spending time with the elders helped. They were pretty wise, as the stories had always said, but as for their clairvoyance, they claimed they had the power to see the future. However, they could not prove it because it could change the whole course of events. Still, it didn’t stop Sif from asking; she was curious, after all.

"Is there a different?"
When I first moved to this city I thought, wow, everywhere is wheelchair-accessible (in the infrastructure, at least); there's dropped kerbs and ramps and underpasses everywhere! On further inspection, I have determined that it is, in fact, bike-accessible, which looks similar except for how bikes can go faster and get up steeper slopes and cover more ground. And have a much smaller footprint width-wise.
