I'm still finding it hard to finish the book but there is one plot point that if it is not going to written well, I might be just one of the biggest JLB haters...
Potential trigger warning (SA) and Spoilers.
One major reason I was able to relate with Grayson was the crash out he had when he learnt about the way (reason more like) he was concieved. Not (just) the adultery part but the fact that he was brought out into this world for the purpose of revenge. Skye tells them 'four beautiful conversation with four handsome men' except one of it wasn't, not really. His story began from someone's death, a man's grief and his thirst for vengeance and just somewhere in between, just lust.
Now here's the hard part I'm gonna admit to, it was around the time I was reading this book that got to I learnt that my story also began from someone's pain, suffering, fear and a man's lust.
It broke me. I began questioning everything about me, my existence, my purpose. I hated myself for just existing because who wouldn't being born at thr cost of someone else's joy and happiness. With Grayson, I coped and JLB helped with that rather beautifully.
And Lyra being a product of SA too, the idea of it feels almost too convenient for Lyrason because Ik that JLB (prolly) had in mind what I said above when she wrote Grayson so she also very conveniently paired him up with a girl with that kind of backstory.
Still I kid you not, this better not be trivialised or brushed over easily. Ik people hv different coping styles and that Lyra was raised happy in a healthy family environment but learning shit like this about yourself is not fucking easy and I swear to God it better not be played down for the sake of the rest of the plot. JLB wrote it and she has to give that kind of trauma justice.
