Odonaru: Japanese & English Comparison Part 2

Disclaimer: All posts in this compilation are tagged "odonaru jp to en" on my blog. They are not arranged chronologically, and are mostly meant to write down my own impressions for my own tag. These translations will be far from perfect even if i try not to tackle anything too out of my depth... I would be very happy if a fluent/native speaker were to see and correct any of these translations

DLC5: Does it suit me?

This is if on Day 1 of the Investigation, you make Phoenix present his Attorney Badge to Apollo at the Agency.

Odoroki: The return of the legendary lawyer.... It's a little bit exciting. Naruhodou: ( So it's just "a little bit"....) How is it? Does it suit me? Odoroki: Yes! And the badge presenting is looking real professional. As expected, Naruhodou-san, you too used to present it to no end, didn't you.

O: Densetsu no bengoshi no fukki.... chotto kandou desu ne. N: ("Chotto" nanda....) Dou? Niatteru ka na? O: Ee! Bengoshi bajji no tsukitsuke mo sama ni natte masu. Yappari Naruhodou-san mo tsukitsuke makuttetan desu ne.

English:

Apollo: The return of a legendary lawyer! It's kind of exciting. Phoenix: ("Kind of"?) So how do I look with it? Apollo: Wow! You present that thing like a real pro! You must've done it a thousand times.

In Japanese, Naruhodou asks the leading "does it suit me?"...and Odoroki responds very clearly that yes it does. The "ee" ("yes") is clearly connected to whether the badge suits Phoenix; what he says afterwards about presenting the badge is qualified by "mo" ("too").

In the English localization, they went for "How do I look", which is an open-ended question, so, I guess that is why Apollo responds directly about how "presenting the badge" looks. Maybe they didn't want Apollo to have to spell it out "you. look. good"? I don't know... Either way, the localization did make him think "it makes him look like a million dollars", so we know what he actually thinks about the look.....

Also ...does Naruhodou's " 'chotto' nanda...." make him sound a bit disappointed?

          kalim probably doesn’t exclusively wear his cardigan with his uniform. it’s versatile, soft, and can go with a lot of his clothes, so if he’s in a rush, sometimes he’ll just throw it on. if he’s going somewhere in his pajamas, he’ll also just instinctively toss it on for kicks since it’s usually colder at night in the land of hot sands.
