"Sorry for the mess," Tim says first, pocketing the cylinder of the revolver and leaving the rest, useless. He's standing in a field of shattered glass and spilled alcohol, tiny starbursts grinding into the wood grain under the soles of his boots.

The bartender ignores him, rakes her hair back into a ponytail with a dour expression. The longshoreman's head droops inevitably into his stein, eyes lost beneath bushy eyebrows. His dad is dripping blood onto the worn, green-brown surface of the billiards table.

"Can I help you, sir?" Tim asks, approaching slowly from the east -- Jack's right side.
