"found you." lydia said, tapping charlie on the shoulder. she didn't expect to be playing hide and seek at this gala, but for the one second her eyes left charlie he disappeared in the crowd. "what do you say we go somewhere a little quieter?" lydia suggests, holding out her hand.

lydia circled the pit in search of any hint of what they might find below. it was quite blatantly a trap, which was all the more reason the redhead was enticed by it. there didn't seem to be a ladder to get down, so there would be some difficulty, especially being unable to see what is at the bottom. but the banshee had an overwhelming feeling of needing to know what was at the bottom. after making her round and not finding anything out of the ordinary, she stopped at charlie's side. “please tell me you are just as curious to find out what’s down there as i am,” she inquired, casting a sideways glance in his direction.

it was the smell that broke through the haze first. the strong metallic scent in the air was familiar, but not what she expected to find at her desk in the fbi office. slowly her other senses came to until she could tell that she wasn't at her desk anymore. she was outside. if she had to guess from looking she seemed to be downtown in small alleyway between the shops. her green eyes moved down to survey the area for the source of the smell when her eyes landed on the dead body. stabbed from what she could tell from the spot where her feet seemed to be melded into. why does this keep happening to her? first it was walking around in the middle of night and waking up in unknown places and now she was finding dead bodies?
deciding in front of said found dead body wasn't exactly the ideal time for an existential crisis, she took a cautious step forward. close enough so she could lean down to check the man's neck for a pulse. it didn't seem likely he could survive with the amount of blood, but that didn't stop the body from somehow finding a way. sadly, this one did not.
she started looking over him over for any other visible clues when she heard the approaching footsteps. lydia stepped back and stood up taller. "stay back," she called out to whoever was approaching. "this is a crime scene." tapping her pockets, she realized that, of course, in her fugue state she wouldn't have the forethought to bring her purse where her phone was. "and call 911."

lydia passively flicked through a rack of clothing, stopping every once in a while in consideration before continuing down. "come on, smile, tara. i'm buying you a dress." lydia exclaimed. "there's nothing retail therapy can't fix." she says before plucking the one from the rack and held it up to tara. "what do you think?"

as lydia would every morning since she got back in town— and, as memory serves, every morning growing up here, she stopped at the roost for a necessary caffeine fix. as she waited for her order, she found that her gaze was constantly meeting another customer's whenever she happened to look up from her phone. it could just be coincidence, but for vanity sakes she had to know why if it wasn't. "do i have something on my face or why do you keep looking at me like that?"

"i'd say that with his infrequency, the fields medal is far more prestigious than the nobel prize," lydia pointed out as she reviewed the work of its most recent recipients. that was back in 2022 and she had two more years until the award would be given again. her plans may have been delayed by this supernatural wrench, but she wasn't giving up on her dream. "not only is receiving the award rarer, but there are far stricter restrictions to who gets rewarded. only two women have won it... so far. i plan to be the third," she said matter-of-factly.
