Joe Bedell-Brill and Georgie Hoare are 0171, a Hackney, England duo hoping to break down societal conundrums and complexities with their brand of innovative, technology-fused warp on pop music. With their latest track “Follow”, 0171 yield a chimeric single that defies definition. Taken from their upcoming EP “Change Nothing” due August 14th, “Follow” invigorates with its resonant bass lines, blurring vocals and jolting dancehall jive to their futuristic reggae. Though its influences on the track, may not be entirely obvious and bear little semblance to its inspirations, 0171 assure us of the 90′s pop roots of “Follow”:

“’Follow’ is a fantasy. Songs like ‘Sex On The Beach’ or Vengaboys’ ‘We Like To Party’ come to mind; but we wanted to push those pop fantasies until they became sinister.”

“It’s all about a longing to just let go and believe that everything’s fine, everything’s perfect, even if you know it’s a lie. This is the fantasy world that pop music provides - a world where you really can just take someone’s hand and drive off into the sunset with the top down. We know it’s fake, but we might as well believe in it.”

“Follow” is preceded by the sinister cacophony and clanging bass of “Automatic” and singles from previous EP “Red Light” including the beaming uplift and thundering house electronics from its title track and the snappy percussion and R&B silk of “SMTHN RL” with its globetrotting video:
