NEW CAMPAIGN - #StepUpScholastic Join Ferguson Response, Teaching for Change & American Indians in Children's Literature in a campaign for teachers, parents, and students to tell Scholastic to publish and distribute children’s books that reflect and affirm the identity, history, and lives of ALL children in our schools. Scholastic must increase the representation of people of color and Native Americans to match their audiences. More than 50% of the children enrolled in public schools are people of color or Native American, but only 14% of children’s books published in 2014 were by or about people of color. Unfortunately, Scholastic's catalog is no exception. We need books that are mirrors in which children can see themselves to affirm their own identities. We also need books that are windows that help children build understanding and empathy for people different than themselves. When books only reflect one image, all children are harmed. No classes today. It's a holiday because the whole country is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the EDSA Revolution. Anyway, I was supposed to go with my classmates to shoot our film but I chose not to since I made the script already. So instead, I chose to be productice today and hell was I good. I was able to finish our Health performance task alone despite of it being a collaborative one, I don't mind, anyway. After that, I started working on the Math performance task but ended up with nothing. So I quit trying and relaxed myself for the rest of the night. Kuya came home today. We ate dinner and I miss Mana's inihaw. So a few things happened today, too: Brits 2016 where only Lilo attended the event but they won best video; Youth MV is out and it is so good; Halsey tweeted about Colors MV coming out today but it is nowhere; AND OTWOL IS SO FRUSTRATING THIS TELESERYE I SWEAR WHY DID I JUST WATCH THIS NOW IT'S ABOUT TO END CRAP MY HEART FLUTTERED DUE TO TONIGHT'S EPISODE I NEED MY CLARK.

After watching the PiliPinas debate

•Binay is still a no-no. You don't know what dynasty is??? Bullshit. •Same with Roxas who doesn't seem to have anything backing him up except his party and the president. I'm still not convinced. •Santiago is my person for the position but I wanted to hear more of her thoughts, maybe we'll see in the next debate. •Poe on the other hand spoke really well although I have some issues regarding her concerns on the coconut farmers. Why not be concerned of the farmers in general? Her consistent mentioning of coconuts bothered me a bit. I like how she answered the questions nevertheless. •Lastly, I'm a bit curious as to how mayor Duterte will carry out his 3-6 month-plan. How will we do it? Sure he has done a great deal of good in davao, but is he really the one we need? What bothers me is how he treats, rather, mistreats women. As a woman, this is a factor I have to consider. I'm already scared to be in this society, what more would happen to women if he, someone who mistreats them, runs the country? I don't know if this is an attack towards his personal issues but this is an issue I take into consideration when it comes to mayor duterte.

Black Nationalism modified? Internationalism & Beyond

A lecture series occuring every Thursday in February on Malcolm X with the one and only Mick Ward II. In Mick's own words: My intention is to present Malcolm X qua Malcolm X by engaging with him on his own terms by focusing on his texts. By texts I simply mean his speeches, interviews, debates, autobiography, journal, and etc. The purpose of this approach is to familiarize people with what Malcolm actually said and to demonstrate what a dynamic, funny, and powerful thinker and speaker he was. In turn, people will be able to engage with many of the misleading, and wrong-headed interpretations of Malcolm. Each lecture will stand on it’s own and I will assume that no one is familiar with the material. I will offer a summary of the texts that I recommend for each week, although any person in attendance will benefit greatly from reading (or listening to) the material before the scheduled lecture. I mostly use speech’s that are printed in the book Malcolm X Speaks edited by George Breitman although these same speeches (and more) are available online in unabridged form here: [http://malcolmxfiles.blogspot.ca/]. What follows is a brief look at what will be discussed:

February 25th: Black Nationalism modified? Internationalism and Beyond The final lecture examines Malcolm X’s thought that characterized the period following his trip abroad. The significance of Malcolm’s philosophy is heavily disputed given that Malcolm was unable to offer clarity due to his untimely assassination. I will offer some insight into the interpretive disputes and offer my own reasoning as to why Malcolm X remained committed to revolutionary change ‘by any means necessary.” Recommended: ‘After the Bombing; February 14, 1965’
