Short Fan Report for the first Wembley Show, June 6th 2014
WEMBLEY! to be honest I couldn’t believe we actually got early entry tickets for their first show there, it was all very last minute and a couple of things went quite a bit chaotic but when we finally had the tickets it all felt very real.
first thing we noticed was that in the info for the procedure there was no time given as to when start queuing for the early entry – first thing that was a bit different to the show in Croke Park. we got to the turnstiles at around 11:40 and there were already quite a few people queuing – I’d guess around 60 people. we had to queue outside the stadium in areas that were marked with barrier tape – we were in the 2nd section of Early Entry blue. basically we didn’t know what was happening, when we’d get wristbands, gifts (that was SO poorly handled – the told everyone to get up and get to the side of the area – of course people started pushing to end up nearer the front – so you basically just had to go with that and then handle 2 super rude mums with their daughters who probably thought they were just the type of ladies Harry would be looking for #honeyhegay). after hours in the burning sun and the helpful part of stewards outside passing out sunscreen and showing where to get water for free we were allowed in. they split the group up, I was in the second going in. I had my doubts but the security and stewards at that point mainly managed to keep everything under control so that there really was no running except for the last 10 metres or so. Tina and I made it to front row again – just quite a bit further down the catwalk than the last time.
right from the start you could feel there was a lot more pushing and pulling and trying to sneak to the front than there was in Dublin. there were loads of security people standing around the stage – but they were mostly busy with talking to each other or just handing out cups of water. when the pushing started getting really bad a mother who was stood next to me behind her daughter called for the security, they only had a look and said “oh look, I can see there’s a few free spaces, you’ve got enough room” and that was that.
I should start taking notes on when things happened but some time between starting to wait by the stage and 5SOS’ performance things got really mad. a girl threw up and got pulled out. 3 metres away from me was this huge yellow patch of sick on the floor, I felt so sorry for the people who were stood right next to it. the security said they’d have it cleaned up or would do so themselves but after several minutes nothing had happened. when they asked again when it would be cleaned one of the security guys just said that there was nothing he was gonna do about it so they could just spread it a bit with their shoes and it would be fine. so at some point one of the brave people picked it up in a plastic bag and handed it to the security people (who obviously had finally radio-ed for cleaning people to come – or so they said). ridiculous pt.1
when people complained about being pushed the security was never ever in control of things. during the 5sos gig things got reaaaally bad. afaik a girl had pushed to the front “cause her friend was there” and they were sooooo aggressive. problem: instead of trying to be calm in this situation the security started screaming rather violently and demanded for 2 of the most problematic girls to get out. of course they fought that. in the meantime one young girl basically broke down, crying, she was pulled out and taken care of (at first by a security guy, later a first aider) on the platform in front of the barrier. the other security people kept shouting at the other girls cause they wanted to pull them out but of course those girls didn’t want that and at some point I think they started dragging one of them by her feet? IDK, super dangerous. not to mention that this happened all right next to me and I felt a lot of the struggling in my back. so finally they got hold of one of the girls and the other girl (who was worse imo) kept fighting with the fans around her til she finally disappeared in the crowd.
I still don’t understand why the security didn’t decide on one person to jump over the barrier and grab the people they wanted to take out of the crowd – it didn’t make sense and there were so many girls crying, it was rather heartbreaking.
so yea, vomit, violence and general pulling out. we had it all. the thing that the security people did was hand out water. all. the time. like seriously. ALL the time. even if there was no one there who wanted something to drink. they’d walk on the platform in front of the barrier (in Dublin they only had single steps in front of the barrier that they’d step on if they wanted to reach behind the barrier – here it was a proper platform which turned out to be super annoying during the concert). funny is how “water?” was their response to everything, even if people asked for help with others pushing them. “water” was the only answer they seemed to have.
I’m sorry if I sound a bit repetitive when it comes to this but in the end security ruined the night for me quite a bit. it looked like they tried and compensate for their lack of checking people’s actually security during the show so there was this one lady who would constantly stroll up and down the platform. add 3 people handing out cups plus 1 or 2 more security people every now and then and you can imagine how often they blocked our view which got REALLY annoying when the lady with the radio decided to stand in front of us when one of the boys was finally there and we thought we’d finally be able to interact with them… it just really really really ended up ruining the night for me a bit.
oh and can I just say WE SAW ALBERTO!!! It was only once, he walked past us around the stage so I reckon he ended up either on the other end or other side of the stage. but I was SO SO happy. I love Alberto. #TeamAlberto and when I discovered Bondage Bear I wondered whether it had anything to do with one of the boys – you know, I hadn’t seen the bear before but for some reason my mind went directly to Harry.. ooops :D
anyhow, now a few words to the show.
I was sooooooo pleased that Harry started Midnight Memories – that was actually a great moment and this time I didn’t mind the pause after his first line :))) the energy was good from the beginning, though I felt like there were so many people besides and behind me who were really just there to catch the boys’ attention. less singing and more name-shouting than what I heard in Dublin.
During Little Black Dress we had a short moment with Louis – we made a sign for him and when he walked past us we got one of his lovely smiles. it was lovely. only short cause he had to keep walking, but he’s just really the prettiest when he smiles at you. *swoon*
tbh I really suck at these fan reports. so here’s just a few things that I noticed:
Harry was still really not well. he looked really great and interacted so much with the fans again, but especially during the quiet songs (esp. Little Things) it felt like his throat was closing up – if that makes sense? it just really looked like hard work for him and his vocal chords and I hope he gave them a good rest after the show. between Little Things and Moments he went to the main stage and took a break/talked to someone? I don’t know what exactly it is he did, but it clearly had to do with him not feeling well.
Louis was just amazing as always hahahaha. no really, I thought he looked and sounded great and from what I could see he was in a good mood.
the other three were great as well. didn’t see too much of Niall and Zayn again, but Liam was always busy really paying attention to EVERYONE and he waved and danced a lot and got a bit suggestive with his moves, ooookay Mr Payne, keep your cool ;))
overall the boys were just really… happy and proud and even a bit giddy that they were actually playing a show in WEMBLEY, they mentioned it so often, it was actually really cute. #proud ;))
tbh it wasn’t til after the concert that we noticed the INSTAGRAM QUESTIONS were left out. weird huh. think that maybe the boys compensated for that a bit with their talking between songs – I found it quite cute when Louis asked Liam to tell a joke (and Liam’s initial reaction was to look for Paddy who is obviously a good joke teller ;) ) and Louis wouldn’t tell a joke in return. bless.
when Louis introduced the band Sandy played the bass line to “Rapper’s Delight” and Liam rapped – and Harry copied him. I don’t know I’ve ever heard Harry talk so fast before lol.
all in all it was really good to see them there, they were so happy to play that show and I felt so proud of them. seeing Alberto was a highlight. but the security really had such a huge effect on my mood, boooo. from what I’ve heard from other people security wasn’t as bad all around though.
