07/27/15: Design Lab Day 1 - Story Telling
Today, we started the day off by practicing our brainstorming skill by participating in a few activities led by Ajarn Praewa. One of the activities was to come up with ideas of what we’d do if we have to “raise $1 billion by noon tomorrow” or “marry Brad Pitt by noon tomorrow”. It was a really fun and interesting activity! We also got to practice to look from other people’s point of view by doing an activity that let us pretend to be one of our interviewees and go through a mock interview. In the afternoon, Brendan Hickey taught our class again. This time, he helped us practice our story telling skill by letting each group briefly present their solution to their design challenge and why they chose it, based on their findings in the field.
After hearing feedbacks and having a long group discussion, we realized that our idea of recruiting health workers that we originally came up with was too big and too difficult to actually be able to be implemented. There was a huge problem regarding the funding aspect that we overlooked and failed to solve. So we tried to come up with another solution. We looked back to our time in the field and one aspect that really stood out to us was that pregnant women often served as an important gateway for information for the rest of the community. So, we decided to focus our new solution towards maternal health as a good leverage point to have the biggest impact on the community without the need for as much funding or resources. Together, we began to draft our plan for this new solution.
In the evening, I went to Green Cafeteria to have dinner. I also bought a coffee there, since I definitely needed it to work on the new solution that we just came up with!
