So I read this 10051 fic that involved Hanahaki Disease and I think it was a bit pwp-ish (not really my taste) BUT a certain passage stuck with me:

"An unfamiliar emotion of fear that Shouichi could really actually hurt him back right now. If he pulled away"

And honestly, even though I basically keep Byakuran in a jar in my mind, I never actually considered his emotional depth when it comes to Shoiuchi's betrayal, especially when you look at 10051 romantically (which I do, obviously).

Because he does say that he always knew that Shouchi would betray him, but knowing something will happen does not take away from the hurt/disappointment that comes from it, especially when the person who is planning against you is your best friend, your (fake) guardian and all.

So this passage is running laps in my head making me wonder so many things. Byakuran is this interdimensional being who has seen so much, done so much, lived so many lives, and yet here is this one person who is a constant in all universes, this person who is so much weaker than you and yet is going to pull of the biggest double spy act and stab you in the back and... this person is your closest friend, your BEST friend, the one that made your past days "warm and fuzzy".
