–Vaclav Havel, who resisted in Soviet-dominated Czechoslovakia, including after the Soviet tanks rolled into Prague in 1968 and went to prison for long stretches before the Velvet Revolution of 1989.

The Louisville Flood (January 1937) by Margaret Bourke-White

African American flood victims line up to get food and clothing at Red Cross relief station in front of a billboard ironically extolling “World’s highest standard of living. There’s no way like the American way”. Some 400 people perished in the disastrous flooding of the Ohio RIver.  The implications and impact of this photo ring truer & truer as the years pass.  More here.
