Sweet spirit
Tonight I got home from work to find Matt working in the yard, and Veda playing "beach" in the dirt. She had her beach toys out and was building sandcastles out of dirt and bark dust. Our neighbor has a regular visitor who is a young autistic boy. He kind of yells random sounds out on their back porch when he is there. Veda heard him, and got a very concerned look on her face and said, "That boy crying. I want to make him feel better. I make sandcastle for him!" So she filled up her little plastic turtle mold with bark dust and carefully carried it over to the fence and called out. "I made you a sandcastle! Don't be sad, little boy. I make you feel better!" Coincidentally, he got quiet. So she smiled huge and said, "He not crying anymore!" Such a sweet girl. So proud of her.
