11.2.20. Chicago

Several labor unions representing at least 150,000 workers, including the Chicago Teachers Union, are prepared to take any nonviolent action to prevent Trump from stealing the election. UE president Rosen suggested the need for a general strike.

Statement from the unions:

“We believe the labor movement has as essential roll in defending democracy. We believe in the power of the people—the mutli-racial working-class majority—and we’re ready to defend our right to a free and fair election and a peaceful transition of power.”

“We will stand up for democratic rights wherever they are at risk. We call on all unions, community, faith, and civic organizations, and public leaders to unite in vigilance and readiness to defend our rights as the votes in the November 3rd election are cast and counted.”

“Donald Trump wants to steal this election. We won’t let him, and we are prepared to engage in mass non-violent protest—up to and including a general strike of all working people, if necessary—to protect and defend our democratic rights.”

Jingyan looks up at the abrupt choking noise. Sir Su dropped the small plate and chopsticks in his hands, shards and food alike scattering on the floor.

His hands shot up to his throat, eyes wide.

“Sir Su!”

Jingyan had only seen such a reaction in one other person before, but he didn’t have time to ruminate on the parallels. He rushed toward Mei Changsu.

Fei Liu ran for Doctor Yan. Jingyan cleared the mess out of the way and supported Changsu in his arms before he fell to the floor.

His body trembled and shuddered, gasping for breath, already pale lips tinged blue.

Dr Yan rushed in with medicine already prepared and wasted no time forcing it down Changsu’s throat.

Yan was ready with a basin when he summarily expelled everything, hacking and retching.

Fei Liu was patting his back over and over while Doctor Yan handed over a second bowl of medicine.

Changsu drank it down, then his hand holding the bowl dropped to the floor. His head lolled and eyes closed. Jingyan looked to Doctor Yan.

“He’ll need time to rest and recover.” Yan looks over to Li Gang. “When he wakes up, make sure he eats something. This morning’s breakfast was one of the few things he’s had the last two days.”

Then he inspects the food on the floor and misses Jingyan’s expression of surprise and worry. Sir Su had hardly eaten and Jingyan goes and gives him an allergic reaction. His heart ached.

Again Jingyan’s mind drifted to that person from long ago. But, no. He mentally shook himself. Many people have food allergies, it’s not unheard of. Moreover, Sir Su had such a fragile constitution. It was hardly unusual.

“Hmph, here it is,” Yan said, eyeing a piece of a hazelnut sweet Jingyan had brought over.

Jingyan felt his heart stutter for a moment.

“Is... Sir Su allergic to hazelnuts?” he asked numbly.

Yan froze and looked over at Jingyan. He seemed to deliberate a moment before letting his shoulders slump and nodded in affirmation, keeping his eyes on the patient.

Jingyan turned, staring into space. He mouthed what his mind was too afraid to think.

Dorohedoro episode 5 was another really fun one. Sorcerers live in a fun world, neat seeing En’s crew talk to Risu and all the mysteries relating to that, Shin and Noi fighting back bullies by chopping them in half and ripping out their still-beating hearts and saying “that’s the bully squad taken care of” is fucking hilarious, this show’s good. Very afraid of Noi vs Nikaidou because I like both characters and don’t want either one of them to die forever.

Healin’ Good Precure episode 2 was great! I think they did Nodoka and Rabirin’s barely-even-a-fallout thing surprisingly well for a children’s show, given how easy it is to just use that trope and have it feel lame and melodramatic as shit. Their reconciliation was also nice, and uh, I almost cried at it, entirely because of Aoi Yuuki’s performance. I tell ya, girl’s incredible, my favourite seiyuu for a reason. But god, what a weird feeling. Because obviously Precure is a children’s show, and by virtue of having watched many children’s shows when I was, uh, a child, it’s like, you kinda just have lower expectations of them, such that I’d almost call Yuuki’s performance overacting, like she gives a way better performance than is needed for a children’s show, but also that’s not really fair because my own interpretations of children’s shows from my past shouldn’t match up with modern day Japanese children’s shows I have no prior history with, so like, yeah. She didn’t overact, she did perfectly. Fun time. Lowkey expected blue girl to become a Precure this episode but that didn’t happen, shows what I know about the Precure structure. Next episode though, thanks to previews.
