Given what’s happened in his career in recent years,
Daniel Landlord’s statement that the 14th Inspector is ‘retired’ is probably for the best.

So, the 14th Inspector ends up staying with Mona and her family
while the 15th Inspector swans off to new adventures?
(Yes, the Time Day Special is coming soon!)
The two Inspectors team up to bring down the Tinker with his own devices.
And thereby receive one wish each. The 14th Inspector chooses to send the Tinker back to his own realm, while his 15th incarnation chooses a second BOOTH, allowing both Inspectors to go their own ways.
‘I ought to put this back before someone realises I’ve been here.’
It certainly came as a surprise when the BOOTH suddenly appeared and knocked off the top of the Blorgon tank.
‘Off with ’is ’ead!, as Queen Mary would say.’
‘Oh, c’mon, that’s a bit funny!’
‘’Course I know who I am. I always know who I am. I am the Inspector!’
‘Even that time that I got all those memories I wasn’t supposed to have.’
Everyone’s seemed to have got a bit wound up about the 14th Inspector being portrayed by the same actor who played the 10th Inspector,
as if the 14th Inspector is going to be exactly like his previous incarnation, not accounting for the three incarnations which came between.
Any guesses as to what the 14th Inspector’s
costume will include (beyond riding boots)?
