Shall we dance?
I’m posting this ficlet once again because of Narumitsu week :] Here we go! (I’ll try to write something else later, I still have a pending request, but I didn’t forget!!)
Shall we dance?
“What have you done, Edgeworth?”, he kept repeating it to himself.
It was a mix of an ordinary place and an elegant decoration. The place was chosen by Phoenix, mostly because he knew exactly the number of guests. Besides, he wished that the occasion occurred discreetly. Edgeworth agreed, but only if he became the responsible for the decoration. Surely Phoenix was expecting a fancy party after the deal.
“It will be all red. And expensive. And fancy. Please don’t embarrass me, baby.”, he mocked at Edgeworth.
He just stared him back, furrowing his eyebrows. But the prosecutor knew that was just a joke. At a first moment, he imagined everything red, as Phoenix had mentioned, but it would be not fair with the defense attorney’s favorite color. The good thing about experience is that you know exactly how to find the middle ground. After so many years together, they’ve found the perfect spark. The problem was solved, a mix of blue and red would turn to purple, or in that case, lilac.
That was the color of the wedding party. The ceremony had already ended, they were married. Edgeworth was wearing a graceful three-piece suit. The shirt was red, while the waistcoat, tie and jacket were black. He was also wearing a red ornament on his jacket pocket, which held a pocket watch chain gracefully hung. This time there was no cravat. The guests were glad, greeting him enthusiastically. Detective Gumshoe was crying like a baby, Kay had to calm him down before he could break Edgeworth’s bones. Franziska said she wished to whip him, but it would be inappropriate for a wedding. So she just shook his hand, congratulating him and saying that a relationship was a foolish thing destined to foolish men.
Everyone seemed so happy for the prosecutor. But his mind was far away, echoing the same line. He looked at his ring time after time, wondering if everything was real. He couldn’t look at Phoenix, not at that moment. He knew that his husband – and that word made him shiver – was happy. He could feel it.
They finally finished greeting the guests. Edgeworth couldn’t avoid Phoenix anymore. The defense attorney was also wearing a three-piece suit. The shirt was light blue, while the jacket was white. The waistcoat was grey and the tie was pink. There was also Trucy’s necklace, hung as usual. When Edgeworth looked at him, he felt like looking at a sunny sky. And the sun was approaching him, making him turn away.
“Hey, baby. They want to take pics for the album. Shall we?”
“Y-Yes…”
“You don’t look happy with that.”
“I’m not a big fan of taking photographs, that’s all.”
“You’ll look gorgeous, as usual. Between you and me, we know who’s the most handsome, huh?”
“O-Objection!”, he was about to build an argument when Phoenix gave a peck on his lips, hushing his attempt to protest. He blushed while the defense attorney leaded him to the photographers, holding his hand.
After a long period with the photographic essay, they set apart one more time. The guests kept talking to him, but his mind was still far away. He didn’t regret his decision to marry Phoenix. He loved him. The question was: did he deserve Phoenix’s love? The answer was always no.
When they said yes, the defense attorney cried a lot. Mostly because Edgeworth wrote lovely votes – of course he spent months trying to express his feelings. But when Phoenix said his votes, he was about to cry. Not because of sadness or happiness. Edgeworth knew that feeling quite well: it was guilt. Guilt for not being good enough. Guilt for not being worthy of his love.
This feeling kept hurting him during the wedding party. He was able to be polite with the guests, but he was not feeling happy deep down. Phoenix was used to his behavior, he couldn’t notice it, mostly because the Wright Anything Agency was keeping him busy all the time.
He’s so adorable. The evidence is front of my eyes. He’s always surrounded by people who love him. And I also do love him, although I have no right to do it.
“Edgeworth? Hello? Is anybody home?”, Phoenix was trying to catch his attention.
“Y-Yes. I’m sorry.”
“It’s time.”
“Time? For what?”
“My surprise for you.”
“W-What are you talking about?”
“Didn’t you notice the middle of the hall? It’s empty.”
“Yes, of course. The guests will dance later.”
“Yup, they will. But we are going to debut it first.”
Edgeworth froze.
“W-Wright! What do you mean by that? You are terrible at dancing.”
“I know, okay?! We won’t go with waltz! And I promise I won’t step on your feet. Now, the guests are waiting. Shall we dance?”, Phoenix reached out a hand to him.
Chief Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death. Chief Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death. Chief Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death, he kept thinking while they both headed to middle of the hall.
Everyone stood up, staring at them. The lights went off, only the middle was backlit.
“First of all, I’d like to thank you for your presences here tonight. It’s one of the most important days of my life and I’m glad to share it with all of you.”, Phoenix started talking. “The man in front of me is the most wonderful man I had the opportunity to know. It would be no surprise if I fell in love with him, which I did, guilty.”
Edgeworth sketched a smiled, looking away. His cheeks were blushing. Phoenix proceeded:
“The fact is: I’ll do my best to deserve this ring. And here’s my first just married attempt to show it.”
Phoenix wrapped his arm around Edgeworth’s back slightly, while the other hand gently held his head. He dovetailed his chin on Edgeworth’s shoulder and whispered:
“Are you ready?”
Miles had no reaction. He was in shock. The music started playing. Phoenix started guiding, it was a slow song, which demanded slow moves. Romantic ones to be more specific. Edgeworth was holding Phoenix’s waist slightly. He was too shocked to think rationally.
The lyrics started. Phoenix was holding Edgeworth at the same way, his eyes were closed and his mouth was sketching a smile. Then his lips approached the prosecutor’s ear. He started whispering:
“Come up to meet you… Tell you I’m sorry. You don’t know how lovely you are.”
Edgeworth grabbed Phoenix’s jacket tightly. He was about to burst.
“I had to find you, tell you I need you. And tell you I set you apart.”
He couldn’t withstand. He lay his head on Phoenix’s shoulder and burst out in tears, holding him tightly. Wright remained guiding him, ruffling his nape and hair.
“It’s okay, I’m here. You don’t need to cry.”
“I… I don’t deserve you, Wright…”, he sobbed.
“Of course you do. Do you think I’d fall in love with someone unworthy since I was a kid? I may be a silly man, but not to that extension. I know what’s right for me. And you surely are. Now accept that I chose you, we’re married. Okay?”
Edgeworth nodded positively. They remained this way until the song ended. Almost everyone in the hall was crying.
“You made everyone cry. Are you satisfied?”
“Not bad for a defense attorney, huh?”, then Phoenix sealed their lips.
The guilt was gone. There was only happiness now.

In this ancient worldview, god lives in heaven, which is a place above and beyond the rest of creation.
This has led to a cosmology which is
-dualistic (material - spiritual)
-anthropocentric (human centred) fixed earth, static creation with a transcendent god
reltionships in anthropolistic cosmology
-god as transcendent, above and beyond
-humans seperate fro and above the rest of nature
-humans have a relationship with each other and maybe god
-earth is the stage on which we play out our lives, not important
-can lead to justification of domination, consumerism, exploitation
Hierarchy (picture the below as a pyramid)
god
men
women
children
animals
plants
rocks
Organisation in a dualistic anthropolistic mosmology
-hierarchial
-patriarchal
-unchanging, not flexible
-established by god
-can lead to justification of oppression and abuse
humans are seperate, powerful, invulnerable, isolated from the rest of creation
New insights -> new world view
Creation-centred cosmology
Big bang theory
-lots of evidence everywhere
-also for evolution
view is that god is an 'inner dynamic'
-all life is connected
-humans have capacity for conscious awareness or reflective thought -> gives use greater responsibility
-through creation we are connected to all other living creatures
Not so much of a hierarchy, fluid, meshed together
