Phil: But it's interesting, when I actually put the maid outfit on for the Viewers Pick My Outfits, which was like a jokey part, that
Dan: I mean, that wasn't a serious outfit, it was like a super ugly eBay outfit
Phil: Yeah. It was a terrible eBay maid outfit but it created quite a strong reaction online. Like I saw people tweeting me like, there were some people talking about it like: Oh, it's so wrong, have you seen this? This looks terrible! What is he thinking? And I was thinking like, why are they having such a strong reaction to something-
Dan: Wait, wait, wait. Were people saying like, this is a BAD maid outfit, it's a joke, you don't look sexy?
Phil: No!
Dan: Or were they being like ugh, Phil's wearing a girl dress.
Phil: It was like, yeah, it was like a disgust.
Dan: Oh my god! When was this video? Like 3 weeks or months? I don't know
Phil: Where- it's fine!
Dan: 1992? WAHT. You found people that were offended that you-? You weren't even like trying to do drag or have a femme look.
Phil: No.
Dan: You were wearing a very ugly maid outfit, and people were offended?
Phil: Yeah.
Dan: Oh my god.
Phil: It didn't upset me. It was more of an interesting like, I wonder why.
Dan: That's rare.
Phil: If I'd worn like a banana suit...
*Dan starts laughing*
Phil: Would I have had the same, like, oh, what's he doing with his life?
Dan: That's fine, but then you know, oh, god forbid you wear that frilly apron. They are going to FLIP OUT.
Phil: Yeah, so it's interesting.
Dan: I'm going to call my grandma. God, that's... I feel like you found a rare Pokémon or something. You should have taken a screenshot and put it in a museum.
Phil: I obviously saw more people being excited and laughing at the video. So yeah, it didn't bother me, it was just... it was odd that that still in 2021 - 2020? - created such a visceral reaction in some people.
Dan: And you've got to imagine that even amongst all the people listening right now, there are a few dozen people, right now listening, that are maybe feeling the same way. Lowkey.
Phil *unbothered*: Yeah.
Dan: So I just want to say to those people that if you are in anyway comparable to the journeys that me and Phil have gone on, inwardly, and this doesn't even have to be about sexual identity or gender identity, just in terms of the rules you think people have to follow in life, or whatever. Maybe just question it. Because there's nothing wrong with it. And it's okay. And if you've been brought up to believe something or it goes against something or you'd feel afraid if you made the same decision, it's okay to acknowledge that. But then just think: Maybe I should just let it go? Is it alright? Is there actually nothing wrong with Phil wearing a horribly ugly maid dress other than the fact that he did look stupid and ridiculous on his own YouTube channel in front of a million people?
Phil: Yeah, I think that's a thing.
Dan: You really did.
Phil: If you go down "path of why", like why do I feel like this? Where did that come from? Does that make sense? And why am I getting annoyed by something so small? You can probably break it down to think, that doesn't make sense! I must have these thoughts for societal reasons that shouldn't be in my head!
