Emotional acceptance refers to the willingness and ability to accept and #experience the negative emotion, to acknowledge and absorb it. . When handled well, negative emotions can have benefits for our well-being and researchers are exploring this aspect. . Acceptance offers several advantages. 1. By accepting your emotions you are accepting the truth of your situation and it means that you don't have to spend your energy pushing the emotion away. Instead, once the emotion is acknowledged, you can use your focus and energy to find the best behaviors that are useful for you and aligned with your goals and values. 2. When you accept the emotion, you are giving yourself a chance to #learn about it, become familiar with it, become skilled in managing it and integrate it into your life. #Emotionalavoidance doesn't teach you that. 3. Acceptance will help you in saying "This is not that bad”. It may not be fun, but negative emotions won't kill you. Experiencing them as they are (annoying but not dangerous) is eventually better than the continuous attempt to avoid them. 4. Finally, when you accept a #negativeemotion, it tends to lose its destructive power. Pushing against it is futile and not healthy. But if you accept the emotion, it will run its course while allowing you to run yours. . It’s not negative emotions that directly impact our #health and #wellbeing, but how we react and process them when we do experience them that really counts. So, accepting them does not mean spending too much time reflecting, analyzing, ruminating, questioning. But just letting them live inside of you the time they need to teach you something. .
