I think it would be pretty funny if Tripitaka was a lot stronger than he looks and could easily take out a demon; he just doesn’t like to hurt others because he feels bad.

Imagine if Wukong was about to be killed by a demon, only for Tripitaka to come in and wack the demon away with his staff.

Tripitaka: *Has just knocked out a demon* “Wukong! Are you okay?!”

Wukong: *isn’t sure if he should be annoyed that Tripitaka could had done that this whole time or be amazed that Tripitaka was able to do that and might had just fallen for him even more*

That's what basically Journey Renewed!Sanzang XD Probably because he is already a Buddha Sandalwood Merit here, so he already above most of the versions! He just walk around don't tell anything of his plan (twice) and deal with a lot of demons himself AND still was sad that Wukong still needed come to him and help in his arc.
