I did some complex spatial geometry yesterday to figure out why the shoulders and sleeves of this jacket didn't fit. Today's task: actually fix it. The good news is that it's not a huge task, and only involves a bit of trimming and piecing. Most sleeve problems are actually shoulder problems, and shoulders are really hard. Knowing where to measure and how to use those measures is critical to shoulder fit. Pre-industrial tailors almost definitely knew this, and the ommission of shoulder measures from early drafting manuals is probably the result of preserving trade secrets. #18thcenturyclothing #18thcenturytailoring #measurements #tailoring #patterndrafting #sleeves https://www.instagram.com/p/CV3BKyXAfV7/?utm_medium=tumblr
