Now this guy isn’t invited but I’ll put down his general condition anyway in the even he decides to do some kind of dash commentary, sneak in despite his awful state, who knows.

So the Hohenzollerns are gone and Wilhelm II is no longer the German Emperor. Now despite Wilhelm’s flaws and questionable leaderships skills Pru, was actually rather fond of Wilhelm. The two got along quite well personally I think, partly because they had a good deal in common. Ngl I call Willy II ‘a more unstable version of Pru’ as a joke because of their similarities. Because of Pru’s loyalty to the Hohenzollens and( while recognizing that he wasn’t the best leader always, and not always agreeing with him, esp about that Navy) his friendship with Willy, Pru was quite devastated at the fact that the monarchy was no longer a thing. It hit him so badly, he felt ashamed because it was like he failed Fritz, who he is still hung up on, and not only that but Pru is just not a fan of democracy. He wants the monarchy back pretty much. (He’s still not in 2016 but that’s not relevant right now)

You can probably guess he was not a fan of the German Revolution of 1918-1919 and he dislikes the new flag. So right now he’s still rather sour about that too. There were also various riots and violence in the state, that was not fun at all. The political instability made him feel very powerless on top of the war, which made him feel quite powerless as well, and one thing Pru does not like is feeling powerless.

World War One was devastating to him, as I alluded to above. When the war began he was cautiously optimistic, by the time it ended he was tired, very upset at how everything had gone downhill, and just wanted it to be over. He was sickly, badly injured, and very malnourished, and as of this date still is. 

Not only is he physically ill but he’s angry and resentful. He feels like he's being blamed for everything, when he sees that not everything is his fault. He’s also upset about Japan invading those islands that once belonged to the German Empire. Once the conference is over he’ll have more things to be upset about of course, including the loss of those islands, the loss of additional land, the dissolution of the Imperial Army, the reparations that needed to be paid, and his own loss of power and influence in the German State. It was really the beginning of the end for him, and while he sensed it at this time he just didn’t know it fully yet.

Also the congress opened on his birthday, January 18th. Happy birthday Pru.

      How long had it been since she’d seen the nations standing around the room? Since she’d heard their voices, or spent anything more than five minutes with them? Swallowing the lump that was building in her throat, she realized that she couldn’t remember, and that thought terrified her more than anything else could have in that exact moment.

      Their war ravaged bodies and down turned expressions did nothing to ease her discomfort and she shifted in the ridiculously over embellished french dress she’d been directed to wear. The black fabric hung off of her frame despite it being the closest thing they had to her size, and it only really cinched in around her waist before flowing all the way to the floor. Sparkling gems caught the eye and were meant to distract from the sickly pale tone of her skin; a well thought out plan by those who had chosen it, no doubt.

      Reaching a hand up from her lap she moved to brush her hair out of her face, only to remember after miming the action that it had all been pinned up earlier. A (useless) sheer black ribbon was what she ended up brushing against, and she moved her other hand so she could adjust it back into it’s place amongst her curls. 'The tension in here could be cut with a knife,’ she murmured to herself as she stood up from her seat to grab a drink and place herself where she could (hopefully) be looked over.

      After all, the only reason she’d been dragged along was to show that they were ‘whole nation’ and not a ‘nation divided’. They were divided. Her presence there was a lie, but one she knew better than to contradict out loud.

In all honesty he wasn’t quite sure why he was even here. Oh yes, that’s right because they were a unified nation and he was the Kingdom of Italy too now. Romano rolled his eyes at the thought and threw an incredibly dirty look at his brother who was already speaking among the others. 

They had already arrived some time earlier and had been announced and presented to everyone. Veneziano easily became the public face of things, despite things not going to plan or their way. Romano felt things not going their way was typical by now and he rolled his eyes once more, growing even more irritated at the various nations present. 

He also couldn’t help but feel ill at ease. It was like he was a sore thumb sticking out or a black handkerchief among white. It made him feel nauseous and somewhat nervous, a fact not helped by the fact that he felt ill and just wanted to go home, sleep, and forget. He decided to just distract himself by getting something to drink and perhaps looking for his sister.

1919 Paris

Here’s a short and sort of summed up list of things that show the situation Roma is in at this time.

Firstly Roma at this point is not doing well, the southern Italian economy is frankly a huge mess. Thus at this point he is very sickly, pale, and thin. You could probably guess he was sick if you took a good look at him. This has to do with various factors including the war itself draining resources, but also a series of  majorly corrupt politicians including; Depretis, Crispi, and Giolitti. The violations committed by these men include; voting fraud (including vote buying, intimidation, etc), authoritarian rule of law, ignoring the agricultural issues in Italy and ignoring the needs of many of the poorer people of the nation. In the south many had died of disease at this point and 4/5ths of the population could not read or write. He also greatly disliked Vittorio Orlando due to his possible associations with the Mafia. Funnily enough he had somewhat more positive feelings towards Sidney Sonnino despite him being northern and the other being southern. 

Roma himself did not even see the Great War as ‘his’ war. It was fought in northern Italian soil and Italy wanted territories that were seen by Roma as ‘northern’ and had more of a historical connection to the north, besides Africa which he himself had no interest in (and the Italian population was divided on this as well) and Malta (which he had had hundreds of years ago but had lost interest in long ago). The Italian population itself was divided about the war and many disliked the notion of it.

Because of these factors he does not want to be here. He feels that him being here is a sham and a weak attempt to show Italy is ‘unified’. He has low views towards unification itself and is resentful of it, despite it being decades ago.

Despite this Italy not getting the territories promised in the Treaty of London mildly annoyed him, but it wasn’t a major thing he was upset about. It was more of a feeling of ‘someone broke a promise, so I’m a little upset.’ However since he felt no real desire for the territories and was more concerned about his destitute people and lack of good government it just wasn’t a major thing for him

This is around the time Roma became more interested in Socialism and Communism. He began siding with many of their ideals, such as a lack of interest in the war and this interest would continue for many decades. So yes Roma is a leftist now or becoming more of one lol.

He has recently come back from America just before the war. He left because he was tired and done; the mass starvation, lack of rule of law, corruption and poverty was enough and he just couldn’t take it anymore. He was angry and bitter at everything despite how much he loved his home and people.

The person he will be most upset at here will be North Italy because of all the reasons listed above as well as the continued anger over the unification itself. His attitude to America and England will be most likely be stiff and cold due to the the reasons mentioned above (also he’s a little jealous of America in general, he can now take better care of his people than he can, Roma thinks). His attitude towards Germany and Austria will be outright hostile since he thinks the war is mostly their faults. Though mental gymnastics he will exclude Hungary from this but be less friendly than he would be.

At a glance, one can see the petite Japanese woman calmly drinking her tea, waiting patiently and dutifully for her male counterpart to emerge from the meeting in the adjacent room. A statue of ideal feminine perfection.

Of course, on the inside she is shaking. Filled with unrest, like a hurricane. But she knows better: Don’t let them see you’re afraid.

Sumie knows just how hard they have worked to get here...And just how easy it will be to be shoved back down the mountain. She shouldn’t even be here...not really...Keeping up appearances and conversing frivolities with the other female representatives left out of the sausage party is a complete waste of time to her. She should be back home, organizing and keeping watch...Or in there negotiating and commanding respect.

Her brother deserved this. She’s proud of him and their nation...But he should not have to go into that pit of snakes alone.

1919, Paris Peace Conference

OPEN STARTER

     As Bruce sat idly, minding his own business, the last thing he wanted to do was exchange pleasantries.  He wasn’t usually the timid type, but today, well ... He frowned lightly, remembering England’s mantra of giving off a good impression, and proving himself as both a nation and a man to the many older nations present.      Bruce fiddled with the hem of his suit, looking around at anything but anyone in particular.  He had to represent his nation in a professional setting (albeit with England’s reassuring hand resting on his shoulder, but represent he would, nevertheless), and the prospect riddled him with apprehension.  He couldn’t deny his excitement, but he was never good at these formal things, or at being a “proper gentlemen”; he had always been a disappointment in that regard.  In his head, he could hear the harshness of England’s scolding tone as we speak, present yourself properly, boy, and Bruce compliantly straightened his posture in response.  England wasn’t anywhere in direct sight.  It had become habit.      Back to the conference itself, Bruce was here for reasons that were specifically Australian: to secure Australian (and British Empire) control over the German colonies in New Guinea and the islands.  The American president, naturally, had other things in mind when it came to carving up territories to renew old colonies.  This would consequently create some tension, but more on that later ...      Bruce’s stomach fluttered, and he steadied his nerves with a shaky breath as he stood to his feet.  He was okay.  He had a purpose, and after the devastating level of casualties he had suffered as a nation during the war just passed, he wasn’t in much of a mood to be pushed around or treated as lesser, despite his current young nation anxiety.      Bruce swallowed once, and then moved to intermingle between the other nations and representatives.  He held his shoulders as squarely as he could consciously manage.

Pa/ris Conference Notes

So I see we’re doing this. Just a bit of a heads up to Marzia’s (which was her name at the time) status. (Note; will respond to either Marzia or Carina just to make things easier. Marzia Romana D’lgnoti is technically her name during this time. )

Marzia has represented ‘Insular Italy’ for the just over a century at this point and has finally settled comfortably into her role but is nowhere near healthy. She hates it, but she’s accepted it.

Physically she’s underweight and at almost constant risk of fainting thanks to her health being on an almost steady decline. (The whole WWI situation in Sicily at the time didn’t help at all tbh. Sure there was no fighting but there economy essentially crashed and the Mafia gained even more control)

In order to hide this she’s actually probably overdressed fashion wise but wearing at least one layer more than necessary and may overheat

Emotionally she came out of this relatively unscathed (if you again, leave her physical health out of this.). She’s annoyed and slightly pissed off but nowhere near as fuming as her Northern siblings would be right then. 

Heading into the conference she’s less angry and more bitter and just pretty uncomfortable. If she does talk to anyone on her own it’ll probably be out of concern for their health and/or to shit talk Austria/Hungary/Germany. (Maybe even her Northern Siblings. That’s how bad relations are right now amongst their country.)

Concerned about the others’ opinion of them, she’s more than likely going to be found lingering by her brother ( @terradisirene ) and leaning on him (/whispering in his ear).

Overall Italy’s goal by attending this was to gain more territories than they were promised so she’s actually not actually supposed to speak a lot tbh. Not that she wants too, but because of this she will go out of her way to talk to other nations there and check on them.

Honestly she wouldn’t even be attending this if they hadn’t insisted on all 4/5 statistical regions of Italy going so they appear as a united front before the rest of the nations.

If she cries it’s not her fault she’s very emotional and going through a lot of crap right now and can’t handle it. She probably tears up and hides her face when she finds out they’re getting less territories than intended like their translator did.
