Definetly one of my favorite podcasts. Everything tied in nicely & I loved that we got answers, actual concrete answers/ending unlike HHG. Having the radioshow live with the audience reacting in the background made the show more real.

I honestly found this excerpt a little hard to follow. I didn’t really understand the point he was trying to make, other than does anything really exist. But maybe that was the whole point, that in order to “exist” you have to know what “existing” is.
I was also confused about the reading. I thought that he was trying to say that no one truly knew why things existed
He mostly questions existence, which is normal for Existentialism, but absurd and confusing if you don’t understand Existentialism. What he is arguing is basically the whole point of Existentialism.
Great comments! I think everyone on this thread is right – that conflict between knowing and not knowing why things exist may be exactly part of the point this novel tries to communicate …
I agree, no one really knows why things exist. However, we begin giving objects meanings and a significance. Everyone wants to feel a sense of purpose and believe they know the answer to life.

And we're back at it again. What is existenialism? Why do we exist? Who can really answer that? We feel so out of place when we begin to question existence because he states, "Existence must invade you, master you, weigh heavily on your heart." His overall description is rather depressing but it makes sense. We all want to know our purpose and as soon as we can't answer that or we begin to question what we thought was our purpose we become terrified and lost. "Existence is a fullness which man can never abandon," does that mean we can never stop questioning it? Do you accept that you simply exist or do you long for a deep answer?

I really enjoyed reading this book, because it always made me laugh. My favorite part about these last few chapters, was the mice trying to cut out Arthur’s brain. I didn’t fully understand why they wanted to do that though.
After all those years spent on Earth looking for an answer to their question, what did they believe they would find by searching through his brain now?
The mice believed that the answer to the question they asked Deep Thought would be stored in Arthur’s brain since he was alive on Earth before it was destroyed by the Vogons
How did the mice turn from nice to evil?

The book overall was always weird and silly. These last chapters were by far the most though with the random events. The mice situation was sort of confusing. They were nice and then evil. Two little creatures had more power than the other characters put together. Why did Arthur give permission to use his brain?

I thought about comparing/contrasting Hiram and Zaphod. Another option was Cecil's relationship with Carlos to Zaphod and Trillian, whatever that relationship may or may not be.
HHG Ch. 26-30
I found it funny when Deep Thought came up with the answer to life and everything was 42. It took Deep Thought seven and a half million years to come up with the answer. Loonquawl and Phouchg were disappointed with the answer.
What do you think 42 stands for, if anything? Or is it just a random answer that Deep Thought had to give since maybe there is no real answer to life?
When I first read it, I just thought it was random. But now I also wonder if there is a deeper meaning behind it.

I too found it interesting that the answer to such a big question is 42. I do believe though that life is filled with so many unexpected things that half the time do not make sense & so what better way to describe life than with something just as unexpected. Life can be confusing so a confusing answer describes it. Then again it could be to illustrate just how worked up people become over little things. The answer is 42 & that's it. There is no bigger picture there is no deeper answer, just 42.
Week 7 HHG
It was a complete surprise that the answer to life is 42. I mean really? 42? Out of everything & anything, it's kind of frustrating. Then again the whole book is filled with crazy things. However, it all ties in with everybody percieving things the way they best see fit. Like everyone else is asking, where does the 42 come from? The author has a specific reason for choosing that number, whether it's to be comical, creative or just random.

This weeks podcast was interesting and different compared to the others we listened to in the past. Cecil would talk about the news like every other podcast, but in between of that, he would talk about his date with Carlos. He describes it as a perfect night. They visit an interesting restaurant with unusual features, such as, a doorless room. At the end Carlos even kisses Cecil. Do you think that there is a relationship between Carlos and Cecil? Is Carlos obsessed with Cecil? Do you believe this action continue throughout the remaining podcasts?
I think their relationship will continue since Carlos returned his affection to Cecil
Their relationship could possibly continue unless Cecil is not actually in love with Carlos.

How do we know that Cecil is not actually in love with Carlos? This podcast was different from the others given that Cecil did not stick to his script. He began talking about his date with Carlos instead and how great it had been. He mentioned how Carlos reciprocated his affection.
Week 6 "Analyze & Write"
Q: What is the focus or main point of Toufexis's essay? How do you think she answers readers' potential, "So what?" question? A: Anastasia Toufexis's main point is to give love a different perspective. How it is we [people] come to "falling in love" or becoming infatuated with another individual. She gives scientific explanations rather than romantic ones. She is sarcastic in explaining how people describe falling in love by proving it with actual science facts.
I want to learn sign language! I think being able to effectively communicate without saying a word is pretty awesome. Also, it feels really old to me; like, before we had speech to communicate. It’s mysterious and private and still so animated.
Halfway point
HHG continues to be interesting when I look at the bigger picture. The podcasts continue to be confusing. Cecil never seems to say anything that makes sense when he speaks.

Mary: I wouldn't say it's DIFFICULT being YOUR older sister but I will say being the oldest child comes with a responsibility. & I try my best to be there for ya'll.
Me: Do you consider yourself a second mother?
Mary: Not necessarily. If mom weren't with us then of course I would care for you girls but you can always come to me no matter what the situation is.
Story time
My mom is my super hero. Many can say the same about their own mom & many also can't. Her independence & love of life has inspired me to strive for more. She has made choices that many wouldn't be capable of doing. She has been the best mother/father I could ever imagine having. She deserves the world & though that is impossible, at least a piece will suffice. She has taught me to be courageous & a joyful person.
