“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” 1 Corinthians 13:1 NIV
The more we become like Christ, the more love we will show towards others. #1cor13 We have to receive love before we give it, because what we receive we become. #1corinthians13 If we receive God's love, then we can become God's love. #godslove 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.- 1 John 4:8 #loveofgod If God's love is like this towards us, then we should express this kind of love towards others. #lovelikejesus To learn more on 1 Corinthians 13, check out the studies I have done on this passage on YouTube titled, "1 Corinthians 13". ⛪️ Sometimes I think the church needs to retire the English word love unless we are specifically speaking about the emotion since Love as a feeling can be impatient, love as an emotion can be unkind. It often envies, frequently boasts, and is prideful. It will dishonor others, it is always self-seeking, it is easily angered, it keeps a record of wrongs (and uses them to manipulate.) Love as a passion delights in evil and scoffs at the truth. It only protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres when it pleases us. 🤔 Then start using the Biblical Greek terms like Agape and Phila when referring to proper Christian love as an action.
Hard Questions
I have two very hard questions for some of you. But first, a scenario.
It is three years from now. The pandemic has run its course, and changed the world completely. The United States is devastated. Millions of people learned the hard way that their actions (or inaction) which placed others in harms way caused the death of their loved ones. Because wearing a mask, social distancing, and other measures that scientists and other health experts warned would be necessary were ignored by a significant portion of the population, every single family in America has known tragedy and grief. Parents and grandparents died by the hundreds of thousands because kids were infected in schools and were just as likely to transmit the virus as adults. The early misinformation which claimed that kids couldn't die from COVID-19 was tragically wrong, to the grief of countless families. Because some weighed economic issues as more important than lives, the economy never recovered from the blows that massive outbreak delivered. Hospitals were completely overwhelmed, infrastructure failed spectacularly, and the number of cases kept climbing exponentially until people took steps necessary to protect themselves and their neighbors. Herd immunity was proven to be impossible because antibodies didn't last long enough, similar to other coronaviruses. Universal vaccination proved to be the only vector that stopped the virus, but it was too little, too late. Your own family has been devastated. Your kids and grandkids no longer talk to you because your actions deliberately put your wife in harms way. You had no symptoms, but you gave her the virus. She died a horrible death, gasping for air, separated from you and the rest of her family. She was infected because you determined masks were too uncomfortable and you thought social distancing was ridiculous. Because you thought the warnings were all hyperbolic and overstated. Because you didn’t love others more than you loved your own comfort and confirmation bias.
Now to my questions. Suppose the scientists and health experts are right. Suppose what you dismissed as a government conspiracy was merely the desperate measures necessary to save a population too selfish to save others. When you stand before the throne of God to give account of your actions on the judgement day, what would you tell Him? How would you justify your actions?
I am not perfect. I'm the chief of sinners. But I won't stand before Him and have to answer for not taking every action I could to protect my family, my friends, and my neighbors.
Oh absolutely!! I would go as far to say that this pic depicts what it means to love anyone. Romantic and nonromantic relationships alike. Love is. Love does. Love gives all! #1Cor13 #PatientLove #KindLove #NotEnvious #DoesNotBoast #NotRude #NotSelfSeeking #NotEasilyAngered #KeepsNoRecord #IsVeryPatient #DelightsNotInEvil #RejoicesInTruth #CoversNeverExposes #ProtectsAtAllTime Love is who you are. I miss you---
Hey I know we haven't texted each other in a while. I know we haven't seen each other in a while. I know we haven't talked to each other in a while. It's been a while. And I've been running through my thoughts and memories as much as I have tried to avoid it, you've been there. As I see you before me in my most guarded worlds I don't want to tell you that I hate you, or that I regret what happened, or to go away, but just that I miss you.
It's so strange to think of someone who I knew so well is now a stranger.
When you invade my dreams and thoughts I try to run the other way, but then I see a sight, sound, smell, or person. And the full weight of reality crashes down on me. I want to talk to you again, to laugh with you again.
But the decisions are decisions and the world keeps spinning by God's grace.
I was hoping I never had to say goodbye to you. But one day that happened and that was it. I write this to you and hover over send, but never do in the end.
It's not fair. Life isn't fair. But I will not be part of the unfair if I can help it. And though it hurts so much to keep this all to myself, I will. I meant all the things I said on that wire bench, I meant all the things I thought on that bench at the foot of the cross overlooking a sleepy town, I meant all the things I said on the couch.
There are nights when I feel my leg vibrate and hope to see your name breaking the night air, but I look and your name is not there.
I miss the girl with a caffeine tolerance that is outrageous, but who's laugh was so contagious.
I miss the girl who loved flowers, with a smile that could carry me for hours.
