I have recently just adopted a 20 gallon tank with about 6 cichlids from my mom's friend who couldn't afford to take care of them anymore. They're all pretty small, about 2 inches but 1) i know I'll need a bigger tank in the future but 2) my real question is, do they mainly stay at the bottom of the tank? From what I understood is that they should be pretty active but mostly lay at the bottom. Should I just give them some time after the stress of transporting? Oh, they're African cichlids!

Rescaped the tank. I'd let go on its maintenance, so most of the cleaning consisted of elbow grease. You can see how it looked on the left. (Note there are no fish in this tank) 

 Pretty much completely broke right now, so the current plants are not final stocking, I'm just getting some up and running. 

 Now we play the waiting game.

Fish

HAHAHAHA.

So, it's been forever since I posted anything. No real excuses, of course, just laziness on my end. Well.... here's what you missed.

A lot of my betta babies died. All at once too. Not illness though. There was no signs of anything from any of them. They were all eating really well and super lively and then I did a waterchange... and a lot of them died. I did absolutely everything that I normally do during a water change too. Same levels of all the chemicals. No new chemicals. All that jazz. So that was very upsetting.

I did some fish moving after that. Just shuffling them around in the tanks so that I had a free slot. Because I had stuff planned. The 20 gallon, which I think I posted some pictures of a while ago. It still has guppies in it. More now, actually, because that tank's beautifully balanced and guppies, while delicate, multiply like nobodies business when they want to. I will need to start taking some out soon, actually.

But I actually just redid that tank too. It has all four pieces of driftwood in it, and a lot of live plants (I cleaned out the evil sediment. Regular rocks are in the bottom. SO MUCH BETTER) and I just added more live plants today. There are four happy Marimo in there too. Adorable little things that they are.

And then it was time to work on the old sorority tank... or the death/devil tank. Something was wrong with it and any fish I put in there died within 24 hours. I stopped adding fish when I realized this, of course. So I cleaned that out today and I just set up a BEAUTIFUL 20 gallon. Live plants, black and natural rocks. Even a hood and a light. Imagine that. And in there are 2 powder blue dwarf gouramis and 2 golden dojo loaches. I literally JUST put them in, and already they're swimming around and exploring. Super excited for this. The tank looks fabulous. I need names for the four new fish and the two new marimos, though. Any thoughts, anyone?
