I like the idea that they would disguise as humans for missions or just roam the city sometimes. They're usually careful and avoid humans because even with baggy clothes on, their build still stands out. When april appeared in their lives, though, it is only a matter of time when someone might stumble upon one of them in a backstreet alley.

Here’s a concept that could make the weird one-sidedness of Apritello more appealing:

April falls First.

Of course ‘Freak of Nature falls for Kindhearted Human Gal’ is a 10/10 trope, we love it BUT CONSIDER-

Regular human gal April O’Neil looking at the manmade affront to God that is Donnie, the mutant who entrusted her with the secret of his existence, who enjoys her company and laughs at her jokes, who grins that stupid (cute) tooth gap at her when he finally figures out a difficult chemical formula or how to fix the toaster again, and falling for HIM FIRST.

And it’s APRIL that has to grapple with all the teenage angsty mush that comes from having a crush on top of the Mutant Ninja Turtle thing because

1) April is literally the first friend Donnie has ever had and she doesn’t want to ‘betray’ that friendship he values so much by stacking romantic feelings on top.

2) Donnie has no real frame of reference for any non-familial relationships and April doesn’t want to somehow take advantage of him due to his lack of understanding.

3) He is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Having a crush on him has got to be some sort of immoral, right?? Is that even legal???? Is he going to think she’s a freak??!?

Just…April falling first could be great for Apritello because it twists the typical formula on its head and gives April a bit more of a role in the potential romance than ‘The Prize’ for Donnie to win.

April falls First and Donnie falls Harder.

Also I just want April to have an existential crisis late at night while staring at her ceiling and thinking to herself

“Am I, perhaps, a ✨~Freak~✨?”

So today I was told a story about an ex-husband who has OCD and it is focused on his ex-wife. He’s constantly dropping by the house, driving near the house, mowing her lawn, and other random things because he compulsively needs to be around her. The ex-wife lets him because she feels sorry for him. She’s not at risk in any way and he has no ill will to her in the slightest. He’s OCD and she gets that.

This is just how they live.

Because it doesn’t have to be creepy. Because sometimes people can’t help a mental illness. Because OCD is real and hard to handle.

Now imagine if you were never diagnosed with OCD. Imagine if you spent your entire life not learning obvious social cues. And then one day, your compulsions locked onto an unsuspecting person.

Sure, people mention how weird it is, but you’ve always been weird in other people’s eyes. Your brothers have always made snide comments about your habits and hobbies. It’s not like you’re hurting her. She might need help. Or want to talk. You need to check on her. Find out what she’s doing. You just need to. This is the last time. The final visit. Just one more time. Just one more time. Just one mo-
