Some Les Amis art for the soul
what are your thoughts on the horse from les mis
If you're talking about the horse from the 2012 movie, love it as a beautiful horse. But, WHERE THE FUCK DID IT GO?!?! One moment marius is on it, the next he's not and he's grabbing grantaire. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HORSE IM JUST CONCERNED FOR IT
ok but I just found a video of George Blagden (2012 Grantaire) singing the R’s cut verse from drink with me and I actually started crying...
sometimes i feel bad for liking the 2012 les mis as much as i do, even if it is stupid. like yes, i know the music is not perfect in any way, but idk much about music anyway, and that movie it’s what got me into musicals in the first place, and what made me read the book, which became one of my favourites of all times. besides, it’s a fun movie to watch! well, as fun as it can be considering the plot, but you know what i mean. and even if it were a bad movie, i know i’m allowed to love it anyway, but sometimes i’ll see a post about it, which has many valid and understable points regarding mainly the music, and feel almost guilty that it is one of my favourite movies. it’s silly, i know, but hey. anyway, thanks for coming to my ted talk
so i was rewatching les mis, because what better way to start my birthday than crying over the death of a bunch of fictional revolutionaries, right? i also threw cas’ confession in 15x18 in, to add some spice and i noticed something that broke my heart even more.
i believe in the stage musical it isn’t specified, but in the movie, the fall of the barricade, aka most of their deaths, doesn’t happen at night, it is bright, obviously during the day, probably even morning. now, realisticaly, we know that people don’t die only at night, death doesn’t really have a clock. that being said, this is a movie, which means those things can be arranged, usually with some purpose; with this specific thing idk if they did it with this intent or not.
anyway, my point is: nighttime is, obviously, dark, danger, the unknown, it’s the time of criminals, of predators, bad things happen when night falls. daytime though? for one, there’s light, what doesn’t get a least a bit better when there’s light? one day more, isn’t it? one tomorrow more, kids play, birds sing, it’s safe out there when you can see where you stand. and yet, they die during the day. stories tell you to be wary of the dark, but come morning, danger has passed. and yet, they were safer in the middle of the night, than they were at dawn. children of the barricade who didn’t last the night, one song says, but it’s not true; they survived the night, it should be safe now, right? the tigers attack at night. except for when the don’t.
they were children, we know that, both hugo’s characters and the real young men that he honored with his book, children should be safe in daytime, playing, laughing. the night is supposed to be dangerous, not the day. and yet, they die when the day is bright.
Next year, the Tom Hopper Les Mis will be ten years old.
I should make out my will in preparation for dying of old age. Who wants my stand mixer?
The thing that always kills me about the end of Les Mis is that Marius has apparently dragged Cosette away from her wedding and brought her all the way to the convent without telling her that Valjean saved his life.
“Cosette! You must come quickly, it’s . . . a surprise!”
