2014 Forest Hills Drive, J.Cole
One of my most favourite songs
Blah blah blah... #2014FHD
A Cole(d) World
I’ve always enjoyed music. My favorite artist of all time is Michael Jackson. I have all of his albums bought and paid for, except the “this is it album”. I refuse to listen to it since it was around the time of his death. Anyway that’s a bit off topic. Until 2013 those were the only albums I owned because he earned it. I’ve always been a fan of your music but never thought to buy any albums(side line story was the only one out so far). But when you dropped. “Cole summer” on the “truly yours 2” mixtape I was touched and impressed. That particular song somehow hit home especially the line about “if your next album were to flop”. From that point I’ve been a Jermaine Cole supporter. For a while I truly believed that your record label was going to drop you and that would be the end of your music career with them The album Born Sinner was relative to the life I was currently leading. Being a recent Famu grad I grabbed a job making me a lot of money doing better than all my peers even those on Wall St. My parents being immigrants from Haiti with their own story of coming their own, I thought this would be my perfect chance to attain all that I never had. But as we all know money does not buy happiness, so as you can infer I traded riches and in return I was miserable. Sadly i thought riches was the equivalent to wealth. Being away from my girl I drowned my sorrows in drugs alcohol and the company women. I even woke up in the hospital on my 24 birthday. . But I woke up and this past October I granted my self to courage to purge myself from this job and my current lifestyle. With a thought that I wanted to be free and happy; some people around me thought i was ludicrous for doing such a thing and fewer people only 3 ppl supported. With the plan that ill find something new and it will happen soon enough. And for some people not working would freak people out, but I’m at peace with it all and will move in a direction of my choosing. So when you dropped 2014 FHD I was touched. I know your album has only been out for a week but in my eyes it’s a classic.I really feel that when music is relative to ones heart the melodies will forever be played and never forgotten. Ive tried to catch every interview you’ve done since so I can have the best idea of whats going through your mind to inspire such creativity. I the chronological order that you have set you album I feel like I’m at the stage of “Hello and Apparently” in my life. Realizing that money isn’t my owner and I would do anything for peace of mind and happiness and. I feel like I am just now allowing my self to open my eyes and look at the world and appreciate what it has to offer me. Yes, we have fears in life but knowing that out fears will always be there and we don’t have to indulge them is priceless. Because once you do that there is nothing to be happy about. Ive digested the album as much as one can in one week and will say that this is the first time since the "Dangerous Album” that I don’t have a favorite song. Each song either hits home for a current situation or a thought process that I have been thinking about in this world that we live in. I also want to say that you found a way to infuse the old school with the new. A tale of two Citiez makes me think I’m in a club up state where people just get hype to lyrics and not a beat ( similar to most def when he played in the movie brown sugar). I just want to say congrats and thank you for creating music that humans can relate to. Continue to strive for your goals and not others continue to appreciate those around you. Ill do my best to find you in concert and continue to be a great supporter of yours. Thank you for being brave to share you true thoughts and letting others know that they are not alone.
F$SLove Hopefully the world gets the message. God Bless You. Truly a Cole Fan Alexander Anglade P.S Not saying you’re replacing Michael but I’m glad that you became who you are for others and I to appreciate. You’ve earned the right to call yourself a true artist and avoid the piracy of music which was created because a lack of true artist were being created and phony started to saturate the markets so a balance had to be done. Don’t know if this message will get to you or how it will but i know that these words have been written.Once again F$SLove It’s been about a year and a day since i wrote this letter. And I don’t know if you ever received it. I want to tell you first before I dive into the belly of my thought that I’m proud of you. You’ve accomplished what few believed in. Alongside with buying your album last year, I had the opportunity to attend your concert in Atlanta. (S/O bassy bas too). Amazing experience. I think your fans family and friends have all told you how well you’ve done. I’m pretty sure the numbers told a great story also. But I just want to say is that your album gave me the courage to go back to school and attempt to get my MBA. Many failed attempts in taking the GMAT exam but I’m still trying. have But changed in me or what has enlightened me was how I chose to go about. So I used your concepts and theories placed within your album. I spent time with family. I loved my family. I did all for my family.
