Overcoming social anxiety/awkwardness
Heyyy babes! And welcome to the first 2015 (2025, if ur not delusional like me) post!
So, I was just planning some goals for this year and I had one that i thought I could talk about. I love to talk, and I love my friends and I actually have a good amount of friends, and I'd say I'm pretty "normal" in school and stuff, but I'm actually like so awkward sometimes!
Like literally I wanna talk to all these girls at school, compliment them, be friends with them, talk to them, be in their groups, but it's always so hard for me! And literally all I do all day is just sit in classes and do my work. And that's literally what you're supposed to do, but sometimes it's a little sad and I feel like I look like stand-offish sometimes. And I have my own group and my friends and stuff so I don't need to talk to these girls, but I want to have new friends and just like omg, these girls are just so fun I want to be friends and they make it look so easy but GIRL it's not, or maybe it is? I think it is and I'm just overthinking it, probably like a lot of other people are also, maybe even you.
So, here are some tips I thought of that I'm going to follow to overcome this fear and be more outgoing this year, and if you need them too then we're on this journey together babes!
1.Stop Waiting For The "Right Time"
There will never be a "right time", this is just a way of procrastinating taking a step forward. If you think, "Oh her outfit is cute, maybe I could compliment her", then go do it, NOW! Don't wait, and think, "Well I don't look that good today, I'll wait for tomorrow" Or any other excuse, the time you think of it is the right time.
2. Stop Caring Who They're With
Whoever you want to talk to doesn't need to be alone for you to talk to them. If anything, their friends seeing you compliment them or talk to them, that might make them think more positively of you anyways! And who cares if they're with other "cool" people, or with a big group, or it seems like they're with their judgy friends. Those people don't matter, you're not talking to them, you're saying a simple comment or conversation, it doesn't matter what other people think about you or anything you're doing.
3. Nobody is "Cooler"
You are the same as everyone else. It doesn't matter who they are, you are all just students or just people, nobody gets to be on a pedestal and seen as "wiser" or "cooler" and nobody is beneath you. It's literally nothing, just people.
4. Say What You Mean, Say Whatever, Who Cares?
Who cares if people look at you weird for talking to a certain person? Who cares if someone laughs or they don't take the joke or the compliment the right way? Who cares if they are judgy or rude? You don't care, you are unbothered. And you don't have to say something funny or crazy, you're not trying to stand out all of a sudden or something, just trying to talk to new people, simple! And if people are acting some sort of way about what you did or said, that's their problem and they have their own things to deal with. They are just nobodies, literally!
5. Start Slowly
(I'm using a school point of view, because that's where I need to improve on this!) Start talking to people slowly, try talking to one new person a day for a week, then two people, then 3, or longer conversations, or talking to a boy/girl instead of the same gender. There's many things to start convos, like the easiest, compliments, then there's asking a question in class, offer or ask for help, asking to borrow something, sharing an opinion in a convo, and many more! Just think of random things to do as you go through your day to have an opportunity to say something.
6. Be Confident
I know this is the like stupidest most cliche thing ever, and I'm even still mastering it, but be confident. Just doing whatever makes you feel confident first can even help. If you can't immediately step into confidence or always be confident, listen to your confidence playlist, practice, ect. Remember, this is just a small little leap of bravery, everything will go fine! The majority of people you talk to will be normal and nice, and you have nothing to worry about. DONT OVERTHINK IT!
7. You Are a Lot Cooler, Prettier/Handsomer, To Other People Than You May Think of Yourself
A lot of the time we think we are worse than we really are. We see our flaws more than anyone else because we are always with ourselves. You may compare yourself and doubt yourself, but at the end of the day nobody sees those tiny little flaws or notices if you're scared when you talk to them or anything like that. You're a lot better than you may think!!
8. Do You Want to Be Afraid of This Forever?
Talking to other people is one of the most important things you will do in your life. There no better time to get over this fear and master talking to people than NOW. You are young and this is your time to practice everything, especially socializing. Nobody will remember one random thing you said to someone in like 5 years, so why are you letting this small thing dictate whether you are shy forever?
That's all the tips I have for now, please let me know if these are good and if you have any more please share them! And remember, I struggle with this awkwardness and so many people do too, even the prettiest girls struggle too. You will be so proud of yourself for doing this, and I'm so proud of you, I'm so proud of us!
Love you babes,
xoxo,
Samantha
Haruhi Suzumiya
涼宮ハルヒ
(Anime)
Supernatural by Nagaru Tanigawa
Era: 2000s
Rating: B
Plot: Entering high school, Kyon abandoned the idea of aliens, time travellers and espers and such things. Then he meets Haruhi Suzumiya, an odd girl with a goal in mind: find things like aliens, time travellers and espers, and she proposes to begin a club where she can indulge in her pursuits of not being bored, and eventually recruit Yuki Nagato, a bookish girl who came with the clubroom, Mikuru Asahina, a very shy girl who was gangpressed into joining due to her assets, and midterm transfer student Itsuki Koizumi. You're not going to believe what they are.
Length: 28 episodes (25m), 1 movie; spinoff 16+1 episodes, omake 25 episodes (under 5 minutes).
Thoughts: Well, for a start, this has to be one of the oddest first episides I've seen to an anime - what looks a very poorly upscaled and terrible school movie that keeps doing the bit until the very end of the first episode rather than just fading out into the OP. Anyway, I'm doing the whole thing in this post, starting with the two seasons of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The first episode wasn't some oddity as the episodes really are out of chronological order which makes understanding what's going on a bit of a challenge, with the character introductions on second and third episode, where Yuki tells Kyon she's an alien, then on fourth there's a baseball game with a new guy on the club, and something about the world ending if Haruhi is angry, and to prevent that from happening Yuki uses some powers that allow them to beat the other team, and on the fifth episode we pick up on the introductions again, where Kyon understandably thinks Yuki is pulling his leg until the other two, including the new guy, properly introduced as Itsuki, and Esper, confirm the reality-bearing ability of Haruhi. After that's out, it becomes less of an issue, and the second half if the first season rolls out to a perfectly fine ending, where all characters find their place in that world (B). Maybe unexpectedly, it got a second season three years later, and... You know how I've started about committing to the bit on the first episode? More than half of the second season is dedicated to a time loop in late August, the appropriately named "Endless Eight". Not in the "let's slash costs by reusing animation" because the animation is at least slightly different and lines were re-recorded. Can't imagine what was waiting three years for a new season, then for two months getting essentially the same episode, repeating over and over. Or greenlighting a second seasond for a popular show, and watch it play like this. Not sure about the intent of the effectiveness of doing it but: bold. Also kind of dumb. The show's premise is fun but it's not that deep, and the idea of repeating a timeloop in full, over and over again, with everyone forgetting what they're going through - except Nagato, who transcends time and is witness to the fifteen thousand times it already happened - and mostly playing exactly the same feels... pointless? You might say "that's exactly the point", but it doesn't exactly make it good - there's barely anything new to pick up from episode to episode. If it was *interesting* it could even be 12 episodes of the same thing repeating again and again, but like this... hard to defend, particularly 15 years on, when there's shows who deserve a second season but will never get it (D).
Rumour has it that it was mostly a cynical deployment of filler (this is a single chapter) to allow The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, running at an impressive 162 minutes, to become a movie rather than a a long arc, and doing the math it would allow them to make the story in around seven episodes, which tracks. Cynicism of "let's make this a movie instead" aside, I can see they would go in that direction, given than it's probably the most consequential arc of the stories, while not exactly original - one day Kyon wakes up and finds nobody remembers Haruhi, Mikuru doesn't know who he is and Yuki is really just a quiet girl from the literature club, and along finding out what happened, he must come to terms with how he feels about either world - does he prefer the quiet, more regular world where Haruhi is just a slightly weird girl he'd never meet, or the one with time travellers, aliens and espers? While it's a very long movie, you can well watch it in 23 minute chunks, and pretend it's a third season (B). From here, we also got The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki Chan, a 16+1 episode spinoff set in the alternate timeline where everyone is normal, and Yuki, a regular shy girl in the literature club who is constantly playing on her PS Vita, has a crush on Kyon, and is mostly like a regular romcom, and it allowed us to see these characters in a new, much funnier light, with only three episodes being more serious. Also reworks many scenes from the main show to work in this reality, and the results are frankly good, if you are looking for a funny romcom, it's worth a watch (B). The last entry in this post is The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya, a collection of 25 short episodes (clocking generally well under 5 minutes) contemporary to the second season with the characters in chibi form and their traits taken up a notch. Like many of these sort of omake material, it's not essential viewing, but it's funny and of it isn't it just moves fast enough so you aren't particularly bored by any of it (C).
Really trying to remember why it was on my to watch list but I'm drawing a complete blank. Maybe from Lucky Star, although it was added much later? Heeeeeeh, who cares. It was still an interesting watch, when it wasn't literally repeating itself.
Recommended to: fans of supernatural shows, I guess?
Plus:
Might be one the more interesting "supernatural slice of life" things to come out at around this time
It's a fun watch, the Yuki-centered spinoff in particular is a quite fun romcom.
Minus:
The slog of Endless Eight
Feels it has a bit too much fan-service for a show that really doesn't need it

season boxes
Hey again babes, So...since I have a problem with appreciating the current season and getting too excited for the next season i have decided to make season boxes. Earlier in the year I made a fall box and winter, and um...IVE ALREADY MADE MY SPRING AND MY SUMMER BOX! It's an actual problem, this is what I told youu!!! I was serious I have a problem. I also make playlists for summer and a new thing I did this year was make a spring playlist! I'll link my spring playlist but I don't wanna enable you guys so I won't even talk about my summer playlist... OKAY, just for one second let me talk about it. My summer playlist that my best friend and I made is literally, like, perfection. When I share it you will just like become the happiest you have ever been and feel like your in a 2010s summer fever dream. ANYWAYS...heres a pic of my spring box so far 🌷
Its just a collection of spring-ish things I just quickly found, I dont really think too hard into these boxes BUT when I made my fall box I put the perfumes and candles that I just couldn't stay away from, that's basically what the box is for. If you are so excited for the next season that you smell the cinnamon candle everyday, spray the vanilla perfume as much as you can, basically just craving and craving, then you lock it up into a box so when it's actually that season, you haven't already experienced the whole fun of it and you can have like a little present for waiting! It's especially good because when you aren't constantly seeing these things that remind you of a season, you aren't thinking about the season, so you're not ruining it for yourself, and when the season rolls around, you have a cute starter box to kick it off! Anyways, thxs so much for reading my blog if u made it this far, ik its a long one!!!! How early is *too* early to start getting excited for an upcoming season? I think its too early if youre getting excited more than two weeks ahead. Also, do you think you will make a season box? Let me know babes! I really wanna know if I'm just crazy for this lmao Xoxo, Samantha
*Are there songs I should add to my spring playlist??*
spring
omgg i actually cant wait for SUMMER but....this exact thing happened last year. I was super excited for summer literally in JANUARY that it ruined my summer, because i already thought abt it too much and listened to much summer music and shows and everything. this year, im not even gonna be too excited for spring, but im just like making myself be excited for spring instead of summer. i care more abt summer than spring, but its too dangerous thinking about summer!!!!!!!! anyways....ABC if you get wayyy too excited for the next season when u shouldnt be!! and ABC if ur excited for #summer2015 !!!!! love u babes 4ever, xoxo, samantha
