CABLE GIRLS (2017–)

A few weeks ago, I finished this Netflix Original serie. Cable Girls (original spanish title, Las Chicas del Cable). Set in 1920s, this is the story of four women from different backgrounds newly hired as operators for a phone company.  

It’s important to apreciate of this serie how it supports 1) feminism, 2) LGBT community and 3) friendship.

1) In a world of men, where women have no power to think on their own and have no influence in the society, these four brave and intelligent women show to us how their behaviors and decisions aren’t controlled by men. They don’t require the approval or validation from anyone to be or to do what they want. 

2) In chapter 5 “El pasado”, Sara told Carlota “being different doesn’t go against anything. Something so beautiful can’t be wrong, whatever they say”. This was one of my favorite scenes so far, how important it is to love and apreciate yourself, no matter what you are or what other people think about you. Stop seeking approval from others, live your life the way you want.

3) It’s so cool how you see in this show girls supporting girls. Nowadays, we are in a society that is constantly egging girls and women to tear each other down. Instead, these four woman encourage and support their passions and desires, they listen to each others when they need help or an advice. We need more of that!

Hace unas semanas, terminé esta serie Original de Netflix. Cable Girls (Las Chicas del Cable). Ambientada en la década de 1920, esta es la historia de cuatro mujeres de diferentes antecedentes recién contratadas como operadoras de una compañía telefónica.

Es importante apreciar de esta serie como apoya 1) el feminismo, 2) la comunidad LGBT y 3) la amistad.

1) En un mundo de hombres, donde las mujeres no tienen poder para pensar por sí mismas y no tienen influencia en la sociedad, estas cuatro mujeres valientes e inteligentes muestran como sus comportamientos y decisiones no son controlados por los hombres. No requieren la aprobación o validación de nadie para ser o hacer lo que quieren.

2) En el capítulo 5 “El pasado”, Sara le dijo a Carlota que “ser diferente no va en contra de nada, algo tan bello no puede estar equivocado, digan lo que digan”. Esta fue una de mis escenas favoritas, qué importante es amarte y apreciarte a ti mismo, no importa lo que eres o lo que otras personas piensan de ti. Deja de buscar la aprobación de los demás, vive tu vida de la manera que quieras.

3) Es tan genial cómo ves en esta serie chicas apoyando a otras chicas. Hoy en día, estamos en una sociedad que está constantemente obligando a las niñas y las mujeres a hacerse pedazos mutuamente. En cambio, estas cuatro mujeres animan y apoyan sus pasiones y deseos, se escuchan unas a otras cuando necesitan ayuda o un consejo. ¡Necesitamos más de eso!

Realmente me gustó esta primera temporada, está llena de momentos emotivos y románticos. Espero te haya gustado este post! y verdaderamente te recomiendo pasar tu tiempo libre viendo esta asombrosa serie de televisión.
