Historical stop-motion shitpost by Mari Yamazaki

Plot: In ancient Greece, Demetrios, a not even average pot painter but all around decent person and a fine athlete is pushed by the village elder to compete on the Olympics for fame, glory and money. Fearing being beaten with sticks and having rocks thrown at him should he lose and bring shame to the city, he seeks refuge in a huge pot, and after being hit by lightning, he's sent into the future: 1960s Tokyo.
Length: 24 episodes (~5 minutes)
Thoughts: If the concept very close to being a shitpost and a elaborate medieval peasant dorito joke sounds familiar, yes, it's by Mari Yamazaki of Thermae Romae fame. After having a not so great time with the later half of the manga, where it lost much of the shitpost feel to it and tried to play it more straight, I'm just focusing on the adaptation and that means apparently I'm also doing stop motion animation shows now.
Might as well start there - it's a mixed media show where the Greek characters are rendered with modelling clay, making them look like unpainted marble statues with fancy lighting with sets looking like miniatures, while Japanese characters look like paper cutouts over hand drawn scenarios, both with live action video on occasion, all composed digitally. It looks very unique and if the flash animation in Thermae Romae just enhanced the shitpost feel to it, this fever dream is a much more elaborate way of doing it.
As for the story, after arriving to 60s Japan where he's immediately greeted by a professor who's more annoyed and amused at his sudden appearances than confused, and sees the vase he was painting, which the professor quickly calls shit but valuable, so what you gonna do. After seeing a sports festival and being hit with lightening in the dick (trying to show what the Japanese were missing from the event - competing nude), he's sent back to his time where he's informed a rival city has come for their land and Apolonia, the chief's daughter and his love interest, and being during an Olympic truce, they have no other chance but to settle in sports. In this case, egg racing. After saving the city, he's tasked with making their own Olympics there on the cheap for glory and a bit of money. Some. Well, mostly about the money. The rest should be familiar with those who follow the adventures of his Roman cousin - as the village chief offloads every responsibility of organising the event to him, he finds a solution going into the future. It's pretty much riffing on the same ideas - at a point he even materialises in a Japanese public bath and someone asks if he's Roman - he finds solutions for ancient problems in modern times, after giving them a spin. What is a tour bus but a ride on a wagon and a sleeping capsule a giant pot?
I feel the ideal time to watch this is at the end of the day at the Olympics (the scheduling suggests it may have been part of the lead to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics), but you know what, instead of waiting for (mechanical voice) 2028 just go ahead and watch it now.
