Hey everyone! We’ve gone ahead and refreshed our manual for the 2025 event. Use this resource to find information about the TF Big Bang’s scope, rules and policies, as well as to reference our timeline, contacts, and the FAQ. Please make sure to take a look before you sign up for the event!

Sign-ups officially open on February 1st. We’re excited to welcome new and old participants back for another great year ✨

Hey everyone! This communication is a little later than we usually post re: our yearly event, so apologies if we’ve kept anyone in suspense. Unfortunately, we regret to inform you that we will not be running a TF Big Bang in 2026, for a few reasons.

Quite a few of our mod team have decided to step down due to increased personal responsibilities and/or new fandom interests, leaving us very short-handed. This event is a lot of work to run, and requires a minimum number of people to reasonably manage. (This also means that we will be on the hunt for additional moderators in future.)

Due to a number of external factors, our drop rate last year was significantly higher than usual, even among our regular and returning folks. We’ve done the Bang four years in a row now, and it’s an event that takes up the majority of the year, making it a huge commitment of time and energy. Our main takeaway was that a lot of TF fandom is feeling burnt out right now, and with world events and personal situations unlikely to get any less stressful in the coming year we think that everyone could use the chance to recharge- mods and participants alike.

We’re sorry to anyone that’s disappointed by this news, but we hope to be back again in 2027, refreshed and ready to go again! With the recent news about Discord requiring age verification, this will also give us time to scope out alternative platforms for hosting the event.

We are tentatively looking into running a low-key socials event this summer, so be on the look out for further details regarding that. Thanks to everyone who’s participated and supported this event thus far, and into the future 💖

The TF Big Bang is officially over, and we just wanted to thank everyone who participated once again for their efforts- the writers and artists who created so many wonderful new works for the fandom, as well as the beta readers who provided crucial support along the way. This was our fourth year running the event, and we were thrilled to see our biggest turnout yet 🎉

Stay tuned in the next few months for our 2025 directory and stats, as well as news regarding future events. For now, we encourage you to browse this blog, our bsky, and past/current ao3 collections, and give our participants some appreciation for their hard work!

It's Chase, heading for Iacon! And he's almost there, any moment now...

Part two of working with @lovinglonerhybrid! I had a lot of trouble figuring out what to do for this piece. Starting out, the expectation was to keep him in base mode, but then I got the idea to show him on the move and, well, drawing him mid-transformation is rather beyond me so I settled for this instead, a nice basic drive, cruising toward a city skyline.

Once the scene was decided, I wanted it to be long enough to be convincing on repeat, to accompany any tune like a music video. I had the idea to have a variety of objects zooming into the foreground, 'cause hey, how tedious can animating be? Moving more little pieces isn't that much effort, is it? Except, turns out, I'm a rusty rust bucket who didn't even wanna alternate between two sets, so I plopped the extra building into the background and left it there. You can probably spot which one, on the far right.

How does Whirl scrunch up like that without clipping his leg through furniture? From which angle does the secondary light source enter? What's on the screen all blurry yellow? One of these questions miight be answered by reading The Beginning by Lonestararts.

This is the first piece I drew for this year's Big Bang. It's also the one scene I absolutely knew I wanted to put to paper when I scanned through the story outline. The overall composition more or less popped into my head as is—so from there it was really just a matter of adequately getting down the nitty gritty, bit by bit. Dare I claim several inches of pencil were expended in the process of shading this thing? All in all, a rather meditative experience. 10/10 (would not draw again)

There were so many interesting prompts this year, I kept getting distracted by what else was out there even though, when I signed up, I'd set out to draw fandom's favorite raptor birb, hoping for a grungy setting to cage him in—I had no idea I was still going to get that, but the universe delivered! I got my funky chicken, who accompanied me through watching a whole lot of TV this past summer...

I managed to finish early enough that I decided to have some fun piecing together a motion sequence, which was accomplished by overlaying multiple photos in certain sections and tweaking the lighting conditions for each shot. Love me some squinty distortion, though I gotta admit the skewed effect wasn't purely intentional; was also much much easier not having to line up all the edges just right :]

Here's Onyx, redesigned in a tfp style. I love how he's some kind of mechanical chimera, as if containing the major characteristics of potential variaties of beast-formers/Predacons. He's some of a bird or griffin, some of a centaur, also gives the overall impression of a dragon.

This piece is based on this chapter of Drop Forged, written by @solatronus for the @tf-bigbang, where Onyx fights Predaking to "voluntarily " get his collaboration. Nothing Predaking wouldn't do himself, although turned out disastrously for him...
