What if Florida had an anti-purge? Like a reverse purge? Like what if for 24 hours everyone in Florida just agreed to follow regular laws and act like people who live in a society?

24 hours w/o social media
So, for my experiment, I decided to go cold turkey on social media for a solid 24-hour period. This was something I have never done before, nor have I talked to anyone that has. Right there shows the dependence we have on our devices and within the internet. But I gave it a shot to see where it took me and how I would react. In the morning, I woke up and my phone was off from the night before. I didnt have my alarm there ready to go so I did wake up a little confused. This was because it was 10:00 am. Anyways, in the morning I love to go on social media just to see what’s going on in the world and any news stories that could pique my interest. Not today though, I had to put my phone away and go about my morning routine without any screens in sight. I actually enjoyed yesterday morning because I was in-tune with my environment and talking to all my roommates with full attention. Also, I didn’t have that constant reminder to check my emails or texts. Once lunch came around, it was time to hit the gym and see what that was like. I couldn’t go through my workouts without music, so I had to borrow a friend’s phone to take to the gym. This was interesting but worked fine. After the gym, I drove home and go started on another meal for the day. During that, I was thinking the whole time about if my parents had called me or my girlfriend wanted something. I had told her what I was doing so I figured she would come over and talk if she needed to ask me something. As the day went on, all of my friends were using their devices and it almost seemed they were glued to it. When your also part of the social media world, you don’t notice some things around you that are happening. This was really weird to me as I had no clue what to do with myself but maybe read a book or go for a walk. Once the day was through, I was about to go to bed. Usually, I will watch a movie or scroll Instagram before I pass out, but this wasn’t an option. So, I read a book and eventually got too tired to flip the page and ended up sleeping. The thing that was weird was I fell asleep so quick. Typically, it will take me around 30 minutes to an hour to fall asleep, but last night it was almost instant. When I woke up the next morning, I turned on my phone and was very eager to get back into touch with some people I hadn’t in 24 hours. When I turned my phone on, I had received hundreds of messages and notifications from friends and family wondering if something had happened to me. This was amazing and eye-opening to see the impact one single day of no-communication had done to the people that were trying to contact me. It took me awhile to go through all the emails and texts I had missed, but it was worth it. In the end, I realized how dependent we are on these devices and how different going one day without a phone or TV really is.

This World Is Not As Happy As It Was
This World Is Not As Happy As It Was
Perhaps it’s just me, but it seems like this world has just become one huge ball of bitterness. Has the world always been this way, or is it the modern information age that is making this more prominently known than it used to be? Maybe in this day of instant information, 24-hour news channels, and social media, maybe it’s just pointed out more than it used to be. Now granted, I’m not…
