Being a demigod you had told yourself you should no longer be scared of the dark. You faced monsters on a weekly basis! You had experienced things people only dare have nightmares of, and you cursed yourself every time you found yourself in a dark room.
It was silly, stupid, and not something you ever want to tell Lityerses. Because after all, he is ‘the great Lityerses’ with no fears, no tears and he would tease you relentlessly if he ever found out about your fear for the dark. This is why, during the storm that was going on tonight you had decided to try to stay clear of Lit in your own room. Sadly, the Waystation was prone to losing power during storms and you did not want to be close to Lityerses while that happened (Well, you did want to be close, as in held by him, but he would not, you were certain).
And there it was, the lights went out and you winced. Luckily you had a few candles ready, to make sure you could feel safe for a while before needing to succumb to the darkness. That was your saving grace, until someone opened a door and the wind blew out all the candles.
‘Fuck,’ you muttered as your eyes darted around the room, ‘Who’s there?’ you internally cursed your voice for being as shaky as it was.
‘Just me, (Y/n).’ Lit’s voice sounded from the darkness, ‘You alright? Is there danger?’ you could clearly imagine Lit reaching for his sword, which he never left far from him.
‘Fine, please leave.’ you told him, hoping he would not pick up on your fear. But he did and therefore he stepped forward. You could see a bit of his silhouette move around now your eyes had been adjusted and you moved away, towards the headboard of your bed.
‘Something is wrong, you are scared.’ he simply stated and you felt his gaze on you, while being unable to see his eyes. You took a rapid breath, hating the feeling of being watched in the dark as your heart sped up. Fuck it, Lityerses was stubborn and he wouldn’t leave you be if he suspected there was actual danger.
‘The dark, I’m scared of the dark.’ your eyes were fixed on Lit’s form as you suddenly heard laughter.
‘Pffft, scared of the dark?’ Lit’s form doubled over, ‘what are you a child?’
You send him a glare, although he could not have seen it. After a short minute of laughing Lit stood back upright and you were once again trying to ignore the pitch black world around you. The darkness that had been warded away by Lit’s presence seemed to have come back twice as strong and you felt it encompassing you more and more.
Lityerses knows he is not the best at reading social cues. He knows when people are scared - for it points to danger, and he knows how to seem dangerous, but he does not know how to deal with everyday, ‘normal’ as you call it, social interactions. He figured you were joking when you mentioned you were scared of the dark. Lit had seen you fight of monsters way scarier, and admired you for it. He could not imagine you, the brave (Y/n), being scared of something silly as the darkness.
But when you didn’t seem to join his laughter and he looked at your form on the bed again he realized you had not been joking.
‘(Y/n),’ he carefully called out, but you didn’t respond. His eyes had adjusted well to the darkness and your face resembled the look people had seconds before Lit would have killed them, back in his old life. He shuddered at that thought occuring and wished for nothing more than to have your relaxed, happy face back.
He slowly made his way over to your bed as he disarmed himself. He put his sword against the bed frame as he softly sat down next to you.
‘Hey, (Y/n),’ he put his hand on your arm and he felt your muscles stiffen beneath his grip. Lityerses cursed himself in his head for not knowing how to comfort you. How would he ever take care of you as his beloved when he couldn’t do so right now?
Not yet beloved, at least.
He looked around the room and his eyes landed on the candles. He swiftly grabbed one and lit it with the matches next to it.
‘(Y/n),’ he whispered again, a bit more urgently and it seemed to get you out of your mind. Lit looked at the candle reflection in your eyes, and he felt the warmth of the candle light on your face come into his body. Damn, you looked amazing like this.
‘Thank you.’ he heard you whisper as the light took over your mind. Lit smiled at the innocence of your expression focused on the candle. He wished you would look at him like that, maybe someday.
‘Sorry, uh,’ Lityerses apologized ‘for making fun of you.’ You choked back a laugh as you took a double take of his face. He seemed so genuine. The Lityerses, apologizing to you? More snickers left you as his expression seemed to morph into confusion.
‘What’s so funny?’
‘Why do you apologize?’ you put your hand on his arm, ‘You never do and you make fun of me all the time?’ If it wasn’t for the warm light of the candle, you would have been able to see him blush hard. Lit didn’t know specifically why he apologized, but he didn’t want you to be angry at him. He wanted to hold you instead, be your light in the dark, but he figured now wasn’t the time.
