“i didn’t do anything wrong!” the man yelled out, struggling against security's hold as they dragged him outside. wonho allowed himself a moment to roll his eyes at the situation— you smash a bottle against a guy’s head, yeah that counts as something wrong. “tighten security around here— what am i paying you guys for, loitering?” wonho scowled at the floor manager for the night, finding little amusement as the other man shrinked back in what was probably fear. “fix this or you’ll be the one getting slapped around in the streets.”

it was more of an empty threat, wonho knew the other would have no issues in regaining order but if he’s learned one thing from his father, instill fear into the people that work for you. he also said not to take it too far as a feared boss was never usually a loved boss but wonho didn’t care much for the latter— fear ruled over love all day every day. 

“uh— mr. shin, you have your other issue for the night still waiting.” the other man sweat out nervously, licking his bottom lips in habit. wonho’s frown deepened, staring at the other for a good minute before letting out a deep sigh and averting his eyes to the lush bar. of course he had another problem tonight. “i’ll take care of it, you’re dismissed.”

walking away before the other had an opportunity to open his mouth, wonho took quick strides to reach the far end of the stools, letting out another sigh. it was only when a familar face made its way into his vision did he allow a small smile to break out on his lips as he quickly made a notion at the bartender to leave their guest alone. “im jinah— what are you doing to yourself?”

he wrinkled his noise at her state, it being obvious she had drank more than her fair share for the night, looking as if she about to fall face smack down on the counter in front of her. he was glad he’d already let his employees know he was leaving before he ventured towards the bar, there was no way he was letting her out of his sight now. “come on, princess, let’s get you home, hmm?”

“so it was you who told him.” jinri gave the other girl a playful nudge as she took another sip of her drink. rejection was not a good feeling - in fact it was the worst kind of feeling, in jinri’s opinion. 

she didn’t experience it often, of course. and even if she did, she masked it with her characteristic confidence, a toothy grin that read ‘i didn’t give a shit in the first place’. so that’s exactly what she did, raising the glass the bartender had just given her and gesturing jinah to do the same. “there’s a lot of fish in the ocean, anyways. let’s just drink to that tonight, and plan how i’m gonna ruin him tomorrow.”

“What happened? What’s wrong? Talk to me.”

“nothing.” her insisting was bad, lying had never been her strong suit, but no one could blame her for not trying. even if her lies weren’t exactly the greatest, sungkyung’s persistence to her mantra had always been on point, and that was something to be admired, right?

going to others with her problems just wasn’t something she wanted to do. not when she was little, not when she was in high school, and certainly not now. jinah could understand that, right? out of all her friends, jinah was the one who knew when to give sungkyung her space, and she appreciated it. “it’s fine.”

“someday you’ll leave me too, jinah, it’s inevitable. everyone leaves shin hoseok, the loner. gossip girl should really change my name to lonely boy 2.0 or something.” he let out a bitter laugh, he was always drunk these days. wherever he went, a bottle followed and today was no exception. except for the fact that jinah wouldn’t let him drink, slapping his hand away everytime he reached for a glass. he appreciated jinah, she was probably one of the longest friends he’s had— god, even their parents had been supporting, scheming really for the idea of them hitching a ride on the wagon of life together forever. 

“i’m tired.” he said quietly, the brink of sadness at the crack of his voice. “i don’t want to be hurt anymore. don’t hurt me too.”

“Some things just aren’t worth fighting for.”

“but unnie, how do i know which ones are worth fighting for, and which ones aren’t?” jinri’s voice was slightly childish as she looked down at the floor, refusing to make eye contact with jinah, like a guilty child. 

if anyone else was to witness this moment they would be in shock, watching jinri pout and look so concerned - choi jinri yielding. but in fact she was always like this when she was alone with jinah. for some reason she always found herself depending on the older girl, opening up. “what if i miss something because i give up?” her voice was shaky now, and jinri bit her lips, trying to stop her eyes from watering. 

the problem with feeling so much at ease at someone’s presence was that there was no stopping the flood of emotions and frustration that were being held up so well with barriers of the girl had created from crashing in. and jinri hated, hated feeling out of control like this. 

yet jinah’s comforting arms soon wrapped around the girl, and there was nothing she could do now, except let it all out, her tears, her fears, everything.

“At this point you might as well ask for my autograph.”

sungkyung smiled at her friend, looking up as she got ready to take the runway. no need to be overly dramatic, she was just stating facts. of course, sungkyung always had a tendency to go a little overboard when it came to fashion. not that it mattered, she needed some kind of outlet for the emotions that were just a little bit lacking during other moments in her life. she blames her inexpressiveness but honestly it didn’t bother her too much.

“i’m just saying.” she rolled her eyes, fixing a stray thread along her shoulder (where even was the seamstress. this wasn’t her job). “you look good. better than that...what was her name? the horse face who got the shoot with kanghui.”

“anyways, looking like this he won’t be able to resist. maybe he’ll be the one asking for your autograph.”
