This morning I was looking at a pic of this beautiful woman rocking her gorgeous 'fro and it reminded me of what my daughter told me yesterday...Lord give me STRENGTH! Thankfully my child is very confident with her hair and is good wearing it any which way, depending on her mood. She had been rocking her flat ironed style for a minute and after we washed it she decided to do a "wash n go" look which was big, bold, curly and FIERCE (if I do say so myself). Anyway, she comes home and proceeds to tell me that some little girl in her school TRIED IT and said "oh, so what is it clown day today?" Jesus be a sedative!!!! I kept my composure and asked her how it made her feel, she told me that it didn't faze her but it did bother her that the girl thought nothing of it! I said "listen, people like that are NOT your friend, they are jealous - jealousy is a mean thing, and when it rears its ugly head you let these fools know that you are NOT here for it! You tell them 'it's sad that your jealousy makes you say these things when you could just be honest and tell me that you wish you could wear your hair like mine' then you drop that mic and keep it moving!" She smiled, hugged me and said "you're right mommy, cause I love my hair!" And THAT's how it should be folks... I hate the fact that she has to deal with ignorant children but I know she needs the practice to deal with the ignorant adults they will become...Xoxo
