The Passer-by

On my way to the store

I passed by a man with misplaced valour

He was wearing a striped shirt

And a very pinched smirk

He was talking to a man

Much darker than he

Much wearier than he

And told him to go back from which he came

The man stayed silent

With a deep set frown

And a downtrodden smile

On my way to the store

I passed by a nosy old lady

She had barely any hair

And scary eyes

She was approaching the man

Much younger than she

But not much bolder than she

And told him to mind where his dirty mouth ran

The man grew red

With his eyebrows going high

And a deepening scowl

On my way to the store

I passed by a hopeful happening

It was very upsetting

And very heartwarming

There were three individuals

Much crueler than me

Much braver than me

And made me realise the future we could hope for

The past grows cold

With seasons change

And the road ahead grew warmer
