Nothing makes me more sad than when the main character is so helpless in their situation that even me as a reader can't find a way out for them.

I can't even imagine what Jonathan is going through rn.

Today's episode shows how well thought out Dracula's plans were. He drove Jonathan with the wolves close by, he left Jonathan alone so that he feels the terror of the wolves first hand. This was compounded by it being Walpurgis Nacht, when there were mysterious blue flames everywhere. When Dracula returns, he shows that it is he who is in control of the wolves. It also establishes that Jonathan can be safe solely depending on the whims of Dracula, which is a pattern he establishes for the vampyresses as well.

So today, when Jonathan sees the wolves, it is not an abstract fear for him. He has already experienced being alone amongst them and he is no hurry to relive that experience. He knows that it is the Count's supernatural powers who called them to the door, it is he who controls their will, so risking a nocturnal journey, even with flaming torches, is out of the question. No knowledge of natural history can help him at this point.

Jonathan is now really and truly trapped, his choices are now no-choices.
