Now I know the nature of the obstacle ! The obstacle that it not letting me grow in meditation has been before my eyes for a while now. I was not able to see how to overcome it. Now, I may have found a solution. This solution might also be a pretty dead end but that’s not how it feels at the moment.
Last night, as I entered meditation, I felt that somehow somewhere over the weeks I had lost the intensity of search. The God search, when it loses fire, does not do positive things to meditation. I began meditating at night because I wanted to be able to do all-nighters. What I had not anticipated was the depths to which a bedtime meditation could take me. And the forces in these depths are strong.
The undercurrents right beneath our conscious waking selves has a force and power of their own. I mean, one of the stories of Lord Krishna that I have thought of often in the last few weeks has been about an underwater battle. As a teenager, Krishna had gone underwater in the Yamuna river and had remained there for long. The demon he fought there was a multi headed serpent 🐍. The serpent was called Kalia (kala is the word for black in hindi).
The deep subconscious is so much like Kalia. A force that will pull you in to fight it out while you are breathless and with no god light. It’s almost like if you learn to turn calmly breathless, the subconscious will unleash a multiheaded demon for you to fight. And it also seems inevitable to me that to gain strength as a meditator, one has to fight the subconscious force.
That’s what I did last night. Fight, I did. The fight was to remain within a place in my mind that is calmer than the place where the subconscious devil resides. The onset of this calmer-than-subconscious has so much to do with waking, walking intentions through the day. These intentions, when god oriented and intensely so, have a positively good influence on the battles with the subconscious.
